A 77-year-old British man admitted Monday to killing his 6-year-old great-grandson, who died after being shot with an air rifle.

Albert Grannon, 77, from the village of Sproatley in East Yorkshire in northern England, pleaded guilty to manslaughter and possession of a firearm without a certificate. His grandson, Stanley Metcalf, died after he was shot on July 26, 2018.

Grannon entered his plea at Hull Crown Court and will be sentenced following presentence reports at a later date.

What's the excuse this time? 2nd Amendment?

Certainly they need to ban all airguns. The more rights and freedoms are taken away, the safer we'll be.

Isn't that how it works?

How many car deaths?
The risk of dying by gun is several 1000% higher than car when riding each to work.

Are air guns different than they were when I was a kid?
An inquest at Hull Coroner's Court heard that the boy died after suffering a pellet gun injury to the abdomen, the Press Association news agency reported.
It's really light on details, but it's hard for me to imagine someone being fatally shot with the CO2 guns from back in the day.

Emphatic Yes. Back in the day we used zinc BBs, now it's all about the hardened/pointed .177 pellet.

I've personally seen air rifles that out perform .22LR, wouldn't surprise me if there is stronger now. Awhile back I had someone send me a video of a guy hunting hogs from a blind with a suped up air rifle. I forget the fps he proclaimed, but it killed an ~80lb pig with a head shot at 30-40yds. Pig skulls are burly, that is no small feat for something using compressed air instead of gun powder. I shot a pig point blank in the forehead once to prep it for slaughter, and the damn thing just ran off.

I agree, it's highly unlikely.

Yet, I can't believe the internet had this, but here is a bb gun almost killing a kid, fast forward to 13:26. I remembered this episode from when i was a kid.

Edit, so I guess I didn't include the link?

Anyways, I found just this episode alone, just play it

you can get some awesome 4.5mm/.177 rifles today, pcp semi auto too... many of them well above 1000fps, i've read of 1600 ... and then you can diesel it for 2000+ I assume. While it is a small pellet that is still a decent punch.

edit : Anyway, you have tools around that can end life, being knives, pellet guns, nail guns, hack saws ... spoons ... water ... salt ... at some point it will be "used" to take a life somehow.

Don't forget about sharpened #2 school pencils.

Is the car's sole designed purpose to kill?

Apparently Slow's whole argument is:

A gun's designed purpose is to make the male owner (Slow) look better in a photo, provide a nice cylinder to do his business with easy cleaning and provide a nice resale value without needing to spend a ton on a divorce lawyer.

More details-

Dumb assed shit happens all the time when people leave loaded guns laying around, even when it's an airgun.

Weird story. No real details about the actual shooting and why the little boy died from a pellet gun shot. Did grandpa accidentally shoot him when the boy grabbed the gun from the window sill or did grandpa shoot him on purpose? You shouldn't die from a pellet gun injury unless it hit an artery or vital organ and they did not get emergency help soon enough.

There's no reason to believe it was anything other than an accidental discharge.

How many car deaths?

Way too many, but not nearly as many as the US, because US drivers are orders-of-magnitude worse than British ones. And the British ones are bad enough. In fact they are the worst in the world, apart from all the others.

The car lobby has much of the same power as the US gun lobby, complete with their right-wing high-profile media figures who have conniptions at any suggestion of restrictions on their precious items. Here, they don't have a gun lobby making them look good in comparison, though.
