I never really used Bing for anything other then cashback during that breif period, but yesterday I ended up using their map service and was blown away at how smooth and user-friendly it is. Turn on "Automatic" for map type and just zoom in and out randomly, it's pretty neat to see the perspective re-adjust as you get closer. I don't know if directions are any better or worse then Google, and perhaps this isn't technically Bing's map service, but I like it!
 
the map provider is navteq which bought by nokia in 2008. nokia in turn gives out all the map for free for all the nokia phone (yea....no need to stream maps, u can download the entire US map db for 1.4gb in your phone)

I search for addresses every day at work. Bing is good for checking out houses but fails to find addresses a lot. If they are newer addresses or not 100% correct Bing is about 50/50.

Google will find pretty much any address and its autocomplete comes in very handy when you aren't sure of the exact city or zip code.

So yes...for playing around Bing is cool. Google if you actually need something done.
 
Holy crap, it's smooth, in its animations. That's exactly what I look for in an application where all I do is type in the address and read/print out the written parts.
 
They have streetview?

Edit: Shit, they do, just not for my city.

I checked it out for New York City though, and it kind of blows... Hard to find my orientation compared to Google.
 
Their satellite view, at least for my area, is several years out-of-date. I bought the house in 2008 and Bing's Bird's Eye and Aerial view show trees that weren't even there when I bought the house.
 
Bing often puts things WAY off when you're trying to locate an address. Also the search is garbage. How can they make a search engine that NEVER finds what I want?
 
terrible.

I searched for restaurants near my office in Jersey City (like a normal person might if they're new to the area and are looking for a place to grab lunch)... first, all the results it gave me were across the river in Manhattan, and once I reoriented the map to the correct neighborhood, none of the restaurants were linked up to any review sites (the best part of google maps)
 
I rather like Bing Maps as well. I find the maps easier to look at that Google's
The Bird's eye view is an awesome feature. Great way to really get a feel for things (far better than top down aerial photography). I wish it had better street view of course.

Anyway, just another tool to use.

Wow, some of the birds eye shots were taken quite some time ago. I just checked at my place of work & my car that I had in 2006/2007 is sitting in its parking spot.
