A lot of newer cards come with a DVI to HDMI adapter. It seems like most of the 3850/3870 cards have one, but this one doesn't need the adapter. The user reviews from newegg are almost all 5 stars. I'm pulling the trigger....

The prices on a card this good being this low at release makes me expect that the high end of midrange (200-300$) cards of this gen will be pretty insane. Are 9800GT/GTS or 9600GTX set to be released? Anytime soon?

well the 9800 GTX and such as just g92 chips.

i think they have dropped the price a lot just because ati dropped radon 3800 prices a lot as well.

it costs a similar amount to build a 9600gt and a 3850 512 so i would assume the prices would be close (same amount of ram, similar pcb , bus width and die size)

this deal is pretty good, palit probably actually saves money putting the hdmi port on the board instead of shipping a dvi to hdmi adapter. too bad it doesnt have the spdif pass through that some cards have.

That one is 190$ after a 50$ rebate.

I may go for this one before the rebate expires.

I don't see an HDMI port on that one.

yeah it has an adapter.

the bad thing about that one is, it has that huge orange heatsink cover, so the spdif connector is blocked if it has it.

my pny 9600gt has a cutout for the connector near the SLI connector..

I think it does have the spdif passthrough. There is a little white connector next to the SLI connector that i think is the spdif in. you can see the connector in the pictures:

pictures of the card

It doesn't seem to come with the cable for the passthrough, but this is listed in the features:

"External and internal SPDIFF input"

But i send the SPDIF from my motherboard straight to my reciever so i dont need the passthrough anyway. From what I've read, sound over HDMI on video cards is pretty flaky in general so i'm not sure if this card is any better or worse than the pack.

Hmm 1gb. Could be a lot better than a 512 8800GTS. And I'm sure that fan is more efficient than a blower. Is Palit a good brand though?? Never heard of them in my life

Reviews suggest that 1gig does pretty much nothing in 99% of cases on this gen cards. Next Gen maybe.

Are you joking? The 8800GTS 512 will wipe the floor with the 1GB 9600GT no questions asked. What is nice about that card is the audio over HDMI but thats about the only way this card is better than your typical 8800GTS (well, that and it's cheaper but not by very much anymore).

He knows, but he's reiterating what I said, 1 gb offers very little performance increase over 512megs with current hardware and games. The extra shaders and other assets the 8800gts has over the 9600gt have much more impact. The 1gig 9600gt will probably only beat the 512 in a small selection of tests, much less the 8800gts. Even a 512 8800gt would soundly beat it (and be cheaper to boot).

Does newegg do any kind of price matching since there is a better rebate now. I havent even get my card in the mail from the first deal yet. I could just return it and buy another one right? But I'll probably be too excited to mail it back wait another 5 days for the new one to show up.

Does anyone have experience with WorldWideRebates.com? I heard they really suck. Good deal only if you get your rebate back!

No it is not some April Fool jokes. VR-Zone has learned that there will be two high end parts from Nvidia to replace the current GeForce 9800 GX2 and 9800 GTX in Q3. These two parts are GeForce 9900 GTX and GeForce 9900 GT based on the new GT200 architecture. GeForce 9800 GX2 and GTX will have a short lifespan since they will be replaced in a couple of months time. Nvidia has positioned GeForce 9900 GTX to replace 9800 GX2 and this gave a clue that a single GT200 card will actually outperform a dual G92 card. Likewise for GeForce 9900 GT, outperforming and replacing 9800 GTX. CJ revealed to us that Nvidia will have a hard time fitting GT200 onto the PCB since the GPU is gonna be large and very power hungry so we can probably assume it is still 65nm based. The PCB for GT200 will be P651.

I just did a little research and some say that
Worldwiderebates = OnRebate = Systemax = Tiger Direct = CompUSA.com
Another guy had to call BBB to get them to give rebate because they kept lying to him

And this from the FW forum on this deal:
WorldwideRebates.com are worse than the infamous Kworld rebates where you need to go online to submit entries then fill out forms, mail those forms, then call them back after 8 weeks. It's still a gamble even after that. This time the rebate is a sizable $40

I would be on this in a minute with any other rebate co.
