FK,

So, you are generally buying minerals and making your own items for sale? Or, are you buying in one region, then selling in another and vice versa based on supply and demand?

Generally region trading. Helps to spend a month to train up an orca pilot. I also have that same pilot trained for freighters, but havn't needed that yet. Besides, the orca is still safer as the corp hanger can not be scanned and will not drop goods if you get blow up, so it is pretty much the most secure way of moving high prices items. About the only thing it isn't good for moving is other ships. But moving a 1billion isk complex medium shield booster, the orca is your friend. Heck move 1000 of them at once (assuming you can afford it). People typically won't bother you, but to be extra safe, load a DC II and reinforced bulkheads II in your low slots and your 200k effective HP will pretty much get you through anything in high-sec (assuming you are in an NPC corp and no one knows that is your character).

As always, take precautions. Being anonymous is best for many of those things. Keeping your trader(s) and hauler(s) as different pilots and only let the trader trade, and the hauller haul. There are plenty of people out there who will find who are their competitors in the market by purchasing from the other sell orders and will mark those people in their contacts as "red" as well as gladly put up some private "kill if seen in a T1 indy moving towards system/region xyz". I know I was targeted many MANY times when I was doing both hauling and trading on the same pilot. They never killed me, but it wasn't because they weren't trying, just that the guys trying it were incompetent, or thought they could do it on the cheap (there are at least 12-15 Concordings against Armageddons, Tempests, Rokhs, and Apocalypses from guys trying to get me, as well as dozens of Hurricanes. All failures because I fit my indy properly for tank and escape, not cargo room).

As for the layoffs, yeah, knew that had to happen since they had those loans due or restructuring of the debt by the 3rd quarter (so they either needed more income, less expenses, or both). And with the fans protesting as they did, it really put them in their place in terms of trying to milk the cash cow while ignoring their wishes.

Unless they changed it back, corp hangars can be scanned now, but they wont drop still so it really doesn't matter. I regularly haul upwards of 10b in it afk with no problems.

What's the point of allowing scan if the contents don't drop?

Something somewhat related that has always had me wondering... why do suiciders get insurance payouts on their ships? Doesn't make much sense to me.

Yeah, that is one I don't get as well. To be honest, the person who they "suicided" against should get the insurance, just like what happens in real life when you run into someone else's car and are at fault. Your insurance pays the other guy.

Reason why they allow the scan is because of NPC customs ships. People were using the orca to haul in illegal drugs and bypass the customs scans all together and CCP did say that it was never intended for it to that. It just took them a long ass time to "fix" it.

FK,
thanks for the tips. I was considering starting another private corp and then have my hauler be a part of that corp, while keeping the seller/trader in my current corp. I do have my orca outfitted as you mentioned--I believe that I even used defensive rigs, rather than cargo rigs, since it only affects the main cargo bay rather than the ore bay and corp hangar, I think...

The main reason for putting the hauler into an NPC corp is so that you won't have to worry about war-decs in high sec. Even if no-one knows he is hauling for you, there are plenty of griefing corps that will war-dec random small corps hoping to get a ransom or easy kills.

What's up with those pesky goons? Going on a mining barge/exhumer killing spree, and They took out my Mackinaw then sent a message claiming they'll grant a do not kill if you pay them.

I've extorted 200 million out of a guy in high sec by suiciding a few hulks before. It is just a way to make isk without grinding, although it is very unreliable. Also at this point in my career I would rather have the kill than the isk.

Well, I am about 2 months from re-spec'ing both my characters (one from int/mem -> per/will the other the opposite). I finish up sentry drones V this weekend on my one character (finally) and will start on fighters at that point. Once I have fighters V, I think I am going to switch to finally start getting some dps skills and ships (I guess I should also finish off his armor tank skills since I plan on training gallente).

FK,
my alt is pretty much fully specc'd in gallente skills, i started him training minmatar to fly a tempest/maelstrom/mach as i really wasnt that impressed w/flying a dual rep dominix..as opposed to a tengu/navy scorp. what do you plan on flying w/that char?

Stevty,
From what I have read, the goons are murdering a ton of high-sec ice miners as they are trying to raise the prices of certain isotopes that they have bought a ton of. I dont have a link, but I would do a little research, and probably not go out in a mackinaw until their effort is over...

I plan on getting him into carriers/MOM's (eventually). I started him as Minmatar, but only trained him up to BC's, and then switched to Caldari because I was running missions, and then W-Space with him. Since I want to get back into W-Space, and eventually Class 5+, I really need him in a carrier/MOM for those areas. I guess I really have a few more skills I should finish before switching, Electronic Warfare V, Propulsion Jamming V, Anchoring V, Starbase Defense IV, Energy Transfer V, and get the rest of the passive armor resists up to V as well (that will take a good 3 months, plus the 50 days for Fighters V).

So I stopped playing again for the last week or so, and yesterday realized I needed to start making some isk to pay for the game... So I go and do a monster hauling run to get stuff to my trader(s) (just the normal stuff that sells well, ammo and certain turrets/launchers, but I filled an orca's corp hold, including using crates).

Anyway, I didn't think about it, but I knew in the back of my head that Goons were still on their war against ice miners. I fit for max tank no matter where I go, so I had my reinforced bulkhead II's and DC II. Well, I get close to the lowest sec systems on my path, and I start seeing all kinds of Concordings right and left. I think I witnessed at least 6, and had 2 BS's at least lock me (probably more passive locks as well). They didn't fire at me, because I guess the guy with the cargo scanner realized I was hauling ammo and turrets (which they probably buy from my traders anyway), and not ice or minerals.

There was a pretty epic ocra kill the other day. I will have to post it once I get home from work. But the guy had it LOADED, so much so that he even filled the standard cargohold and probably hoped that no one would bother him simply because he was an orca. Well, he had several hundred T3 subsystems in the normal hold as well as tons of other stuff. I don't even want to think of what he had in the corp hanger, since that doesn't show on the killmail. What dropped was over 13-14bill of stuff. It was also pretty fail fit, with a faction passive armor hardener and DC II in the lows, which nerf'ed his tank by 40-50k hp's.

I guess I am the only one here still sort of playing. Well, my corp finally made part of the move that was needed. The null sec alliance we were in just wasn't doing what we wanted to do anymore. They were mostly a mission oriented, but we (as in our members) were just not cut for that. I think only 3 people moved to where the mission hub was (I eventually got a clone out there, but didn't have the standings needed so I couldn't mission out of the primary station, and had to use one 2 systems over). Anyway, the alliance decided to move to another location, and we just were not feeling it. We had been just doing our own thing in high sec since most people have not been too active lately. Well, long story short we officially left the alliance. Not sure what we are going to do. I think we need to get some more active people or join/merge with another corp or alliance. Most of us enjoyed W-Space, so we will probably try and get back to doing that.

Oh, and all these changes to MOMs just killed my skill plan. Not sure what I want to do now. A MOM would have been perfect inside W-Space, but now that the drone bay size is getting nerf'ed and that it will be fighters/bombers only, it no longer is as viable an option. Before those changes, they were perfect for POS defense and even running sites. But all these drone changes just make them not nearly as worthwhile.

I wouldn't say that you're the only one. It'll be interesting to see all the changes on Tranquility after having tried it out on SiSi already. I figure some of the others may be busy with Skyrim.

I think this is the first time I've posted in this thread.

I unsubscribed my 2 accounts and have not even bothered to log in to set long skills as they tick away to expiration.

The upcoming changes are way too little, way too late.

Michael

I'm quitting temporarily as well when my current subscriptions expire. I'm not as hostile to CCP as some folks are, but EVE is one of those games where I have to take a break every now and then. I'll be back in a few months, but The Real World (TM) is gobbling up too much of my time right now. That and I want to try Skyrim 🙂

Edit: Can anyone summarize the new changes?

Got an open invite in 0.0 drone regions...but can't really be arsed to start playing again, before I am sure they have stop pussifying the game anymore...

Changes:

T3 battlecruisers : basically battlecruisers which use large guns
All capital ships (except orca, carrier, and supercarrier I believe) lose drone bay
Most capital ships lose 25% hp
Siege mode cycle time for dreads reduced by 50% (strontium cost down 50% as well)
Supercarriers limited to using fighters/bomber drones only, drone bay reduced in size to carry 30 or 35 fighters/bombers (same races that had larger bay still have larger bay)

Something with doomsday weapons as well, but can't remember.

Basically the idea is that capital ships are meant to fight other capital ships. Smaller non-capital ships would need to be in place to defend against other non-capital ships in a fight. They also wanted to make the dread useful again other than for taking down someone's POS. I don't fault them for some of this, but I think they need another class of carriers then, one which can still field 20 non-fighter drones.

Hmm... this recent EVE news posting is a bit worrisome:

Scope news have reported that a CCP heavy combat fleet was detected leaving the Polaris system at roughly 17:00 UTC today. The destination of the fleet is unknown at this time but fragmented communication picked up on channels indicates that the fleet are on exercise maneuvers which will involve direct combat with capsuleers. It is believed that this is an initial training exercise for a much larger operation coming up later in the year. Scope would advise all capsuleers to be on high alert over the next 24 hours, especially in low security and null security areas in which CONCORD do not operate.

It is unknown at this stage of the exact time of the impending Incursion. Pilots are advised to keep a close eye on unusual activity in the local channels.

I'm not sure how well a "CCP" incursion will go over compared to the pre-Incarna GM run Sansha incursions.

Also, things not mentioned, hybrid weapons are supposed to get buffed some. I am not certain if it will be the weapons themselves or bonuses to ships that use them. Basically this is to change the fact that pilots flying gallente gun battleships (like the domi) get better dps fitting projectile guns.

I personally just finished prepping for T2 hybrids up to medium sized on one of my characters (he is training to be an all race cruisers pilot anyway).
