Got the 5 free days on my 4 accounts. Futzed around, remembered just how boring this game is. Mostly it's just wait to wait some more. I have no idea why CCP chose *now* to give out the 5 free days, there's absolutely no new content. I probably won't be re-subbing. Not even with the 20B or so I have in various wallets.

You could give me 1B of your ISK so I can afford both the capital ship and the Skill Books I need to fly it. Those damn skill books are damn expensive! I have most of the ISK for it now, but I am probably about 400-500M ISK short when it comes to both the Ship + modules, and the actual skill books to fly it.

Nope, you absolutely can't have my stuff. Who knows, maybe some day when they realize Dust411 or whatever is not a viable product they'll start concentrating on Eve again and release some worthwhile content. I can dream. On the off chance that ever happens I'll need the money.

I really wish I could focus more on Eve's PVP side, but I just don't have the necessary time for it (to be good at it anyhow). After a full day's worth of work and then school, at most all I have time for is a quick missioning OP with some friends I know who also play.

Some of us carebear because we don't have the time, but still love to fly virtual spaceships. 🙁

If I were a shut-in, no lifer then Eve would be my MMO of choice. Not implying Eve players are like that, I just get way too addicted and into games like that, and I know I would lose myself to Eve.

I've become annoyed at how every money-making scheme that I've dreamt up in EVE has turned into an abysmal failure. Running radar and grav sites gave me a decent number of Tech 2 rig blueprints that I thought would be a nice source of income, but it turns out that nobody wants to buy the darned things. I've got an alt that's finally got the skills to start doing research, but the more I look at the numbers for that the less impressive it is.

The only thing that has worked out well so far has been to place buy orders for lots of salvage at very low prices in 0.0 space and then haul it back to empire. For the past ten days or so I've only been logging in to change skills, although that'll probably change again once I've got more spare time after Thanksgiving.

This was the response I expected, but it didn't hurt to ask. I figured that asking for only the smaller portion that I needed was a little more likely to get a possitive result, but no matter. I actually have a pretty solid source of income to make up the amount that I am short by the time I need to actually buy the books.

The few things I have found to work regardless are L4 missions, and 4/10 and 6/10 plexes. Other things I have run are hit or miss.

Playing the market has been a huge boon, but it has been a bust as well when someone else finds your goldmine and starts competing.

Running a POS network required Billions of ISK in start up money, and requires a Jump Freighter or Rorqual to run efficiently (so you aren't fueling it daily, only maybe bi-weekly).

Wormhole space is pretty profitable as well (I was making around 50M ISK a site when I used to run them on a regular basis). But the risk of losing your ship is rather high, if for no other reason than I find it easier to scan down and kill PVE ships in WH space than any other place (due to the lack of a local window).

I've actually seen a number of people coming back to EVE to try out planetary interaction recently. A couple have even ended up resubscribing.

I suspect CCP does these deals like this in the luls between expansions like because the server is less loaded then and expansions bring enough players back on their own.

what I found worked well for me was to kill NPCs at belts out in 0.0 that had a station, and have my alt (dual screens really help) go and salvage/loot all the ships while I moved on to find more to kill. I'de then sell the expensive stuff out in 0.0 and melt down all the other worthless junk. I would then use all minerals from melting stuff down to build battleships and Battlecruisers. I could sell them out there for above Jita prices and I would probably get around 5-10 sold a week (assuming I built in demand ships). Its also a bonus when you run into a rare battleship that has a 10-30million bounty and could have some items worth a large sum of isk on him (assuming you can safely get it back to jita to sell it).

Its important to be in a 0.0 zone with a station for safety reasons, and it makes it much easier to unload all your loot/salvage. One of the reasons I left is that my corp basically disbanded and I was no longer part of the alliance that controlled the 0.0 area I was in. Its not fun having billions of isk worth of stuff in a station that you can't undock from without getting harrassed.

This makes me want to come back and play, but not even EQ had potential to piss me off as much as this game. (although half the fun of pvp is knowing you might have caused the guy on the other end to break his KB or worse).

This is the reason I play. If the game had all kinds of safety nets it would be boring as hell. I dont like simple or easy games. I've been gaming for far to long to be entertained by the same boring crap. i liked sacred 2 for that reason as well. Highly complex character builds and real death at every turn.

I've been waiting forever for this. Learning skills were a TERRIBLE idea.

Glad they are finally canning the learning skills. I knew it would be soon once they implemented that skill point reimbursement system a few months back.

I have a lil over a months worth of training time SP in my learning skills. Man it is gonna feel good to kill off a month long train instantly.

Whiners really didn't win. The devs has stated many times that they wish they didn't put learning skills into the game for many reasons and want to take them out. Up till recently they didn't have any real way of dealing with it till the reimbursement system was put into place.

Dosn't matter to me.
Those skills seperated players with a longterm view from ADHD players.

And tell me that it wasn't about the rate of SP/H..all the whine was about people having leraning at 5/5 accumualtion SP faster than people with short attention span.

Actually I think it was more due to new players having to spend nearly a month training just learning skills then being able to start training and getting into the game more. It really pushes people away from the game that are starting out that they are going to have to spend a month of time on learning skills instead of being able to get into the game and thus they don't bother with the game at all.

For those of us that got into the game knowing we were in for the long haul or alts, sure we planned it out for have great learning skills. But really, when I knew I was going to be in it for the long haul, that entire first month was training learning skills and I didn't even do a single thing in the game. It sucked even though it was a great benefit for me overall.

Yah, I'll be happy since it will mean that I'll never have to tell a newbie again that all the training skills in the world won't make any difference if they quit the game out of boredom in the first month.

I still don't see how removing learning skills nerfs the game. That's absolutely absurd to say. Nothing has changed but when people choose to wait some time OFF of whatever they desired to train.

Sure you don't need them but you'll be damned if you don't have it shortly. You don't NEED to have certain skills to do some stuff but by god having them makes life a hell of a lot easier.

I'm all for not dumbing down the game, but I really can't see how this is dumbing down. Those of us that have had learning skills trained high have been reaping the rewards of it, and for it being taken away from us we are be giving back all the SP be trained into it, the vast majority that have spent a lot of time on learning skills have saved way more time then they invested in it so it isn't like we are getting screwed cause they are taking it away now.

Eve is the best MMO out there bar none imo, but it is hard as hell to get someone new into the game. Besides the insane learning curve to the game itself, finding out that you need to spend a fair amount of time to get learning skills up just so you can achieve things faster in the long run is a hard sell to new people that want to get into few different ships or try out a few things and have half ok skills to actually do so.

If this helps get more people into the game then great, more noob fodder for the rest of us in the long run. The only reason I can see why people would be pissed at this is either they have trained advanced learning skills to V and are nowhere close to have reaped the rewards from it yet or people that simply having played much or started recently and haven't gotten pass the initial time investment and started getting ahead.

You do actually. You have to train in a specific order or you end up with a garbage character and gimped over the long term. Most people remap their attributes to perception/willpower to train ships faster. So if they didn't put a few weeks into training learning skills beforehand, they lose out, because training learning after you have already remapped to perception is inefficient. Besides it meant checking your training plans in EVE mon and making sure everything was planned out meticulously.

It was really a depressing message to send to a new player. The importance of learning skills were based on how long you will train a character, but that's no way to entice a new customer.

Basically:
-If you don't train learning skills, you are gonna screw yourself over and train slower later, but if you do train them, you spend 1 month doing very little or in a station so you can train a proper character even though you just bought the game
