So here's a question I've been pondering for a while. Now that my alt can fly a cloaky scanning frigate what skills do I train from here? I need to get my astrometrics skills up to lvl IV, but after that he'll be where I want him. Should I try turning him into a research alt? I don't know a lot about research other than that you can take Tech I blueprints and turn them into Tech II blueprints with datacores. Any other suggestions for how to make him earn some isk?

Quick Q: Has anyone heard about or participated in any of the Sanshas incursion events? Any fun? I'm wondering if this is going to be an interesting aspect of gameplay with the next expansion or if it's just going to be another grind.

Whatever you want him to be. I have mine able to do all the non-compbat type stuff that I want to do. beign able to Probe, and being able to pilot a freighter are the two most useful skills he has. I also trained him to do Planetary Interaction, and now am training him to fly a Jump Freighter and Rorqual. I may train him to fly a Mackinaw at some point, but I am not a fan of mining.

PI can make good isk, as can the Market. Probing out complexes and running them can be good for ISK too. I make about 150M ISK net profit on my POSes per week. Although, I would probably be happier if I never started mining moon minerals, and doing reactions. L4 missions are always good for ISK as well.

They were going to plant a TCU during the expansion, but we found their hauler and popped it before they were able to start anchoring it. So it ended up being anti-climatic, and I jumped 50 jumps for nothing. (At least we got a TCU out of it though).

Best ISK making I've found to be is running level 4 FW missions. Using 2 characters, I make about.. say.. 250 mil in around 2.5 hours. So about 100m/hour all said and done. Sometimes a little more, or a little less, depending on the missions. Easily doable while watching TV, but definitely riskier than level 4's in high sec. Back in the day, before the mission nerf, the amount of isk/hour was absolutely absurd.

Pardon my ignorance, but what're FW missions?

Faction Warfare. Missions for the FW npc corps, I do mine for the Tribal Liberation Force. So the missions take place in the low-sec FW warzone, which is what makes them more risky than high-sec level 4's. However, I do them in an Interceptor (for speed tanking) and Stealth Bomber (for dps) so getting ganked is a fairly slim possibility. However, there are those days when people have nothing better to do than sit in one of your mission plexes in an inty just so you can't finish it.

Are there any real effective detterrents for suicide ganking when you can't fly a freighter? In my trading quest so far I've found more than a few lucrative runs but a great many of them require hauling 50-100+ mil of cargo to make any real profits... in a paper thin iteron, no thanks. 😱

Kinda thinking about putting the trader alt on training for a freighter for the next month and just taking a rifter to look for lowsec pew pew when I need something to break up the boredom of missions.

freighter's still die. So don't think you are totally safe. The safest is probably a nano prowler with a cloak - everywhere. 5000m3

Don't auto-pilot and you'll escape all but the best organized suicide gank teams, who probably won't find 100M of cargo worth it. Flying outside of primetime will also reduce your risk dramatically. As JSt0rm said, freighters are far from safe, although if you're only carrying 100M of cargo you won't be a target. Still, I think you're better off training for a blockade runner which can get you through lowsec gate camps as well. They're also much cheaper. After insurance, you'ld be risking at least 100M for the ship alone with a freighter. Only train for a freighter if you'll need, and you're sure you'll need, to carry freighter sized loads.

Die, yes. But with ~180k EHP on a freighter it'd take a pretty significant effort (I'm guessing probably a dozen or more BS's) to take you down, so you'd have to be carrying some extremely high value cargo to be worth it. With the iteron I'm using now having ~3k EHP it'll only take a stern look from a couple of cruisers or a BC to ruin your day.

I never autopilot when I'm carrying anything of worth. It's mainly the alignment time entering warp that makes me nervous now... just sitting there waiting, and waiting, and waiting....

The blockade runners do seem like the best short term solution... still about 30 days away from them unfortunately.

If you aren't carrying at least 1B ISK worth of cargo, chances are that you are pretty safe in High Sec in a freighter. It takes quite a few gank fit BSes to take you down before Concord bails you out, so unless you are carrying very expensive cargo I wouldn't worry about it flying a Freighter. (I have been autopiloting a Freighter to and from Jita for over a year now, I just only do it when I have <400M worth of cargo).

Even in Low Sec it took probably 5 minutes for us to take down a Freighter I caught on a gate with 5-6 BC's. Those things have a lot of structure hit points.

No, you need more than that. It took two battleships to take out an Iteron Mark V the last time I saw one suicide ganked, and it would've perfectly safe had it not been on auto-pilot. In any case, it's really not about effective HP. It's all about not being a target. You can carry around billions of ISK worth of cargo all over high-sec in a cheap frigate and never get a second look.

Seriously, I wouldn't worry much about suicide ganking. I've been locked by battleships a number of times in high-sec, and they've never managed to finish locking me before I warped away. If you can't afford to lose 100M of cargo, just carry less in your Iteron until 100M doesn't seem like much of a risk at all. There's really no reason why you can't be making money trading now.

Well today I can speak from experience. A Hurricane is perfectly capable of popping an Iteron in 2 volleys before it gets Concordokkened. D:

I think that's enough carebearing for the moment. Need to find pew pew.

We had pilots suicide ganking haulers in 2 ruptures. It does not take 2 BS to ganks a hauler.

Well, like I said, it took two battleships to destroy a Iteron Mark V the last time I saw one blow up. The first, a Maelstrom, unloaded its artillery and a second, an Apocalypse I think, had to finish it off. The battleships both popped not long after, it was all over pretty quickly.

In anycase, like I also said, it's not about effective HP. It doesn't matter what it takes to suicide gank you, there will always be people capable of doing it. It's all about not being a target, so the capable people leave you alone.

ive suicide ganked an itty 5 with a rupture before....

Then I would've gotten blown up. These were unboosted battleships, I'm pretty sure I could lock them faster than they could lock me. Most suicide gank gangs are pretty amaturish.

Scan res on indie ships are horrible. They may have looked you over and not deemed it worth to attack.

Industrials and battleships have about the same scan resolution but battleships have about twice the signature.

How do you know that they were trying to lock you? If you are saying that you have auto-lock on, and it started to lock onto the BSes, it means that they already had you locked. The Autolock doesn't start until after you have been locked. You have no way of knowing whether they were trying to lock you and weren't successful unless they told you.

I have dozens and dozens of hulk kills in a solo megathron packing T1 gear. Those typically have better EHP than ye olde hauler. I've suicided them without problem in as high as .9 security system (just once, then looked at the security status hit and went OMFG owie not doing THAT again).

How many m^3 are we talking for cargo? A prowler fit for agility (and covops cloak, ofc) is a great hauler if you can fly it. If not, shoot for maximal ehp. You can get a mega to about 80,000 ehp very easily, and fit a standard cloak. Orca corp bays do not drop cargo (nor can they be scanned), and those can be tanked about as well as a freighter.

If you're talking lowsec and 0.0 hauling nothing beats a jump drive. Nothing.

So fast & cloaky (even an inty works), or slow and buckets of EHP. Plenty of ways to accomplish both without a freighter.

Really? Hmm... I guess they just didn't want my ~100M cargo. I just use haulers for moving my junk around, so I guess they didn't bother to look through all the junk on the scan results for the good stuff. Or I escaped while they were busy doing that...
