As fun as EVE can be, I don't think there's anything more dull than those "ZOMG TITAN KILLED!!!" videos. Just a bunch of colorful squares sitting there.

It is everything that leads up to getting that kill because it takes a lot of work/luck to get one. They are very rare kills and each one has a good story behind it, and in most cases it is because of a monumental fuck up from the titan's pilot in most cases.

lol can't blame the guy that is chewing them out. From the sound of it, it was stupid to do knowing that there were within jump range of a dread fleet. PL must have loosened their requirements on recruitment. While the overall loss is a lot, it is not even a drop in the bucket for them really.

PL wins based on sheer numbers and unlimited isk.. it's not exactly skill. 😛 At least, not non-meta skill (as all the spying certainly takes an element of skill).

I decided to take up EVE on their free 5 days to see where my characters were left off. Little did I realize I'd have to pick up the tedium of playing with the character creator to create new avatars for an hour or so.

Needless to say, I looked at my one character sitting there with his Orca, Retriever and Hulk and said "Gee, if only I could take one of these out without likely getting killed in about 12 seconds..."

My amusement was mostly spent looking at 3 years worth of corporate office bill emails that have gone unpaid.

Why would you want to play eve so you can grind at asteroids alone for hours to make isk? That would be boring as hell and tedious, I can see why you do not play it.

I would not play EvE either in that case.

Because I can.*

(*)Assuming stupid retards would leave me the hell alone.

EVE Online, the only game in existence that lets you do whatever anyone else wants you to do.

Strangely enough, I just recently got back into Eve. Well reactivated accounts and started training again at least. Been so long I feel so lost 🙁 Joined some random null sec corp for now to see how it turns out again.

I tried EVE a while ago. I was so utterly bored I did not even make it to the end of my trial period. Coworker thought I would love it since I like meta-gaming and statistics. I guess if I stuck with it, then I could have put that to use, but in the early stages, nope. Do boring low level missions, train my guy, mine a few asteroids, ad nausium.

You have to admit, when you distill just about ANY game down it comes to this exact formula.

The problem is EVE seems to have made it just that much more boring than other games.

That's because Eve is based around player interaction. The "single player" experience has mostly been ignored. There is no value in trying to make a single player experience in a game like this.

Even the player interaction though...

"Hey, let's do xyz..."
"Okay, let me click click click click spreadsheet aaaaaaannnnnnnndddddd wait."

Even a hardcore EVE player will admit that there is an inordinate amount of doing nothing in EVE. I think what Possessed Freak was getting at is that the meta-game of EVE is even boring for people who like meta-games. It's very devoid of substance. I guess the best way to describe EVE in a nutshell is like trying to "play" Facebook.

Except it can be a lot of fun once you have a decent group together. And by decent, I mean 40-60 people online all grouping and doing something. This opens up so many opportunities for fun and profit. With a group of that size, you can gank freighters in highsec using destroyers and make billions. You also have enough people to then go out to low/null sec and rat to fix the small standings hit you take (assuming you didn't pod the pilot in high sec).

:crossarm; what you talking about, i love mining and that's all i do.

ya, i dunno why, i resisted playing EVE because i think it's boring, and now i am enjoying the most boring aspect of it.

Freelancer is very very limited because it at its core you're only interacting against an AI.

You can't do things like griefing, griefing, griefing, etc etc etc.

The fun comes from making people cry over internet spaceships

Fixed that for you. 😉

The problem with EVE is that once you look past the grieving opportunities, the game is kinda bland and empty.

This. EVE has the mechanisms to be much more than just a game to cater to people who take joy in other peoples' pain. Unfortunately nobody bothered to develop those aspects out any further, and, well, toolbags abound in a haven for toolbags.

Lots of fun in Curse.

Anyone here in TEST?

i feel bad for Test, Curse is on dotlan top 10 most violent system list every day since they moved there, and glancing over the killmails it seems like they are usually on the receiving end.

Will have to read that when I get a chance. I've been pretty idle since the beginning of the summer. Part of it has to do with my corp falling apart and leaving the awesome wormhole we had for a real crap wormhole. It isn't even as good as the one we had before the good one. A small group of us reformed, and have actually been getting some more of the original people back into the corp, but as I said, the current wormhole is just utter crap (we can't even make POS fuel because the planets are that useless). I was making 200mill a day just on PI in the old hole. I am lucky to make 40mill in this one (to the point that it isn't even worth my time, as I would have better income running high sec missions with less risk of asset loss for spending the same playtime).
