Well, after looking around, I think I'll try to snag one off egay. For those of you that are trying Amazon, the 10 off 75 coupon that I found expires today. If you need a link, PM me and I'll give you the code. Good luck all.

watching evangelion is like torturing your mind. seen it once and be hell if i see it again 🙂

now does anyone know if there's a Ruoroni Kenshin DVD set of all the episodes? I wouldn't mind forking over some money for that.

Evangelion is a good series, but like others said, go get it from a legit source. 😉 (Amazon and what not, and stay away from eBay since a lot of illegal stuff is advertised there. 😉 )

Unfortunately, there is no Kenshin DVD boxset since not all the Kenshin DVD's are out in the US. 😉

Put it this way guys, if the HK dvds were legit, why aren't they here already? And if they were legit, why are the subtitles so bad? It's hard to believe that a legit release of a dvd would have poorly written subtitles. Anyways, one of the ways you can tell if a dvd is bootleg or not is by looking on the cover of the box and seeing what company it was made from or if there is this big white box (information like subtitled or whatever will be in here, spreadsheet style), then it's bootleg. And by bootleg, I don't mean that they are illegal or anything because I seriously don't know if they are illegal in HK, but I do know that the production company is not getting any royalties.

I reccommend just going on irc and d/ling fansubs. Some of them are very good and most of them tend to be legal.

i am surprise many really understand eva, i really don't.

How do you figure that? If it's been licensed in the US then it's not legal (at least that's what I've been told).

I believe that trademarking it or buying the rights mean that from that day forward they cannot download it or anything legally. If you had it beforehand, that doesn't automatically make everything that you've gotten before be illegal.

It's like if I buy a store and call it the GERMYBOY STORE OF WONDER but don't buy the trademark, if another person buys the trademark a few weeks later, I'm still legally able to use it.

I'd love to get Eva on DVD, but I definitely don't want the ADV releases with the modified scenes (English signs, writing, etc.) I HATE that kind of screwing around with a classic series. So what I want is a high-quality DVD with English subs, but no modifications to the original video/audio. Anyone have any suggestions?

If you guys want good, cheap anime you should check out ULN (BestPrices.com), they've got really good prices on anime there, shipping is decent too. You can pick up the Eva box set there for $98.20, plus US Priority Mail for another $9 for a total of $107.20. And as for HKDVDs, don't bother with them. Sure video quality is good on some, and audio can be good too, but the subs have some of the most horrible engrish I've ever seen. Just a small example, I have the series Sorcerous Stabber Orphen, throughout the dvds they've referred to him as Oven, Oufan, and some other really strange ways. The only DECENT HKDVDs I've come across are DNA2 and Trigun. Those were okay...and as for the legality, the only LEGAL HKDVDs out there that I've seen are ones released by Odex (they are actually licensed), and the Studio Ghibli DVDs. Everything else is very much illegal. So if you've got any moral reservations, stay away...and if you want readable subs, also stay away hehe.

Dukdukgoos: The overlays that you speak of were only in the first dvds initial pressing from what I gather, the new box has a reissue of the first dvd without the horrible overlays in it.

Additionally, as for the ending of eva, let's not get started on that, speaking of which, Death/Rebirth and End of Evangelion will be out this summer, so watch for those. Again, you can pick them up at ULN (BestPrices) for probably around $20-23 a piece.

Yeah but I actually found something close to a box set on ebay. I'm not sure if it's something actually released from Japan or the HK ones but it has English subtitles and comes in set of 4 DVDs. There's 3 sets I believe so 12 DVD total. Here's a link to one of the sets on Ebay. So you can probably get all 90+ episodes for around 100 bux. Not a bad deal but again, I'm wondering if they are good quality? I'm afraid that it's just some VCD rips and condense all into a DVD.

Might want to remove that link.... as per the Hot deal rules...

i liked the ending, but why is it 8 dvds i wonder? it can't be four eps on each of them at that rate. ad vision is so greedy, right up there with viz...

Best thing to do is get the boxset since the new boxset has no more overlays (modified scenes). There are still some minor edits due to goof ups (www.animeprime.com) but this really is the best thing we'll ever get for Region 1. This is my favorite series and I've "boycotted" ADV Films up till now since they seem to realize how f'ed up they originally did.

The RAMMS+EIN - ENGEL evangelion video is super koo (even if not an original)

check it out - its floating around the internet

having already bought all the dvds individually, where can i get the new remastered dvd vol. 1?

<< ebichu is CRAZY! i only got four eps--are there any more? >>

Yes, so far 1-8 is out. And 7-8 is AWESOME!! (enter EbichuMan)

As for HK DVDs. There are I think three titles out that are LEGAL legit. Legal legit is released by the company that created it.
You can get Cowboy Bebop HK.. that is NOT a company legal product.... HOWEVER, it is produced BEFORE the item is made/licened in HK or the states, it is BY law a LEGAL (as in you no get arrested) copy, and you can own it without repercusions.
However, once that anime is out in the states, you can no longer BUY the HK copys anymore under law. If you go to HK and get one, that is legal.
On the other hand, fan sub anime is illegal the moment an anime is purchased by an American company to be shown in America, and you MUST delete it.

Hope that solves any confusions. HK = OK... (and usually the Engrish is SOOOOOOO bad its almost not worth it... unless you encode like me)
My YYH HK is AWESOME!! Its HORRIBLE Engrish! And they even mixed up Hiei and Kurama's names through all 12 dvds! SOme are better.. my DNA^2 has maybe two mistakes, the rest is great... same with my Video Girl AI... Just ordered Beserk, I will see how that goes....
Overall, HK is good video quality (though not always DVD mind you.. You CAN make dvds from mpegs!) and poor subtitles.... but sometimes its worth it (YOU try getting all of YYH or IY at 4 eps a DVD... $98236589 later your almost done!)

<< Awesome. I've been looking for a thread like this to see where the best anime shops are at. >>

http://www.bestprices.com/ Bar none, the lowest prices. I think shipping is a bit high, but you still save after adding in the cost of shipping.
