I rather enjoyed Fumoffu myself... it was a fantastic blend of action and comedy that absolutely destroyed that horrible prior anime adaptation.

Oddly enough, I found CB terribly overrated. I enjoyed it quite a bit, and damn near named my dog Ein, but it wasn't the second coming of christ or anything.

philosobabble not so good.

This. There are better animes out there.

Name one :p

Rah Xephon is like Evangelion but with, you know, actual character development, a decent plot, and a nice lack of pseudo-philosophy.

Evangelion is pretty and has a nice art direction. The anime has a few amazing scenes, but overall its a disappointment. I kept waiting for something to happen with the characters, but they just remain pretty stagnant throughout the entire series. Not to mention the plot is pretty weak, and the story suffers from pacing issues and attempting to be too serious towards the end.

EDIT: Ask for general animes better than Evangelion, there are tons. I would list my own preferences, but that is just my personal opinion.

I watched Rah Xephon a long time ago and the only thing I can remember is that the ending was TERRIBLE.

The thing I like about Eva is having all these wierd characters all placed in the same situation. That and the first 2 episodes were awesome. I like the concept behind the Eva robots, and how the pilots physically and mentally attached to them. I also liked how each Angel they faced presented a unique challenge and there was no consistent way of defeating them. And just when you thought things were going well for Shinji, shit hits the fan. In other philosophobabble anime, you typically have a bunch of depressed emos who never become anything else but emo whereas in Eva you have Shinji who makes some attempts but fails. Then you have other characters like Misato and Kaji who let you know that the show isn't all about emos. When Shinji starts babbling, Misato treats him like a kid going through a phase and does not always take him seriously. In your typical philosophobabble anime, the director practically forces you to take the word of these emos like they mean something and give their monologues a huge amount of screen time. And while this is happening you got the eerie music going on and it all seems like a bunch of crap.

I loved samurai champloo until the ending, which I thought sucked and left a lot of questions unanswered. I saw the first part to Eva 2.0 last year, I liked it a lot. What's with all these remakes nowadays, right now I'm watching fullmetal alchemist brotherhood and dragon ball kai, anyone have any suggestions for original series that are airing right now?

Eva was great, it has great rewatchability,

Rah Xephehon was decent, not as good as eva, I didn't like the art style, I think I gave the DVDs away

Bebop is good but way overrated

Are we talking EoE or the series ending? Cuz I consider EoE the real ending or 'what happens after the series ending'

I was talking about the original.

The EoE ending just went back to the old routine of fluff action. Beautiful, but still fluff.

I'll admit the original ending was pretty bogus, but the TV series was plagued by budget and time constraints. That's why I'm so excited about Rebuild, hopefully Anno will be able to do the series justice this time around.

Evangelion was meh for me. Good action, but I had no idea what was going on. Didn't understanding the ending or anything. Bebop was awesome, I loved it, my favorite anime. Also liked Kenshin, but it gets sucky after awhile

The thing about CB is that it is one of the very very rare animes that does many things well at once.

The animation is quite good, and occasionally brilliant, particularly for a 1998 series.

The voice acting is superb overall.

The writing is clever, and each episode usually can stand on it's own weight when judged away from the context of the series.

It alternately succeeds in terms of drama, comedy, action, with a splash of suppressed romance tossed in, and is eccentric without alienating the audience.

It also does the best job I've yet seen mixing the soundtrack with the anime.

This combination of factors makes it tough to compare anything to it. There are better action animes, there are better drama animes, etc, but it's hard to find something so solid and well-rounded, and particularly hard to find something that doesn't wear out it's welcome with a bajillion episodes/filler.

LOL, nice pic ;)

I'm very interested in seeing what's different in 2.0 as i've heard there were a lot of changes made.

Wow I swear I was going to write the same thing.

I liked the art of Evangelion a lot. I also liked the music. At points I liked the style and atmosphere that they created....but the characters are so static its farking annoying. I wanted to bitch slap Shinji for being such a pussy over and over and over again.

However, without a doubt, Rah Xephon was much better. That is one anime that I want to watch again one day....and its been years since I watched anime in the first place

Oh and I hated FMP....it was awesome for like the first 8 eps (I feel like I've said this over and over again lol) and then everything fell apart miserably. Tried to be silly, usually came off stupid. When they tried to get more serious later on I just didn't seem to care. I heard the later series dropped the whole 'attempt to be serious' part but I quit watching by then. Forcing myself through FMP was enough...
