Evaluating Internet and phone services VIOP, Cable Internet and Cellphone plan

We are currently seeking a broadband provider because, face it, dial up blows. Comcast Cable is the only service available and it will run around $57/month. In addition we have a local basic phone service with Bell South for $20/month. I was weighing the pros and cons of switching to Cable Internet, VOIP service, and a pay as you go cellphone plan to serve as an emergency back up.

I'm still trying to read up on who to go with for VIOP and what all that entails but overall how does this idea seem to those of you in the know.

Personally I signed up a few weeks ago with Sun Rocket and love it. Cheaper than my old landline and free long distance, and cheap international calls too. What do you mostly use your phone for?
