I was passing a semi at night on the Interstate, do about 5 mph over limit. Behind me, a car comes up and sticks to my rear bumper, moving slightly side to side like the driver was going to run me over. Naturally, I hit the gas to allow the car to pass. And naturally, I got a ticket for the cop in the car behind me for about 20 mph over the limit.
Traffic justice is not cosmic. No negative karma will be awarded in this case.Originally posted by: drum

It'd be funny if he had a camera and still got your plate number.

No. It would've been funny if he lost control of his vehicle and plowed it into a tree.

I got a verbal warning once for being kind like that. Longer story, but, same basic tactic.
Then on a family trip I was in the left lane with a semi in the right. I was also passing at a few mph over and saw a car approaching quickly from behind. Only I had seen the cops staked out at the weighing station and suspected it was one of them.
So, I slowed down, signalled, and pulled in behind the semi. As did the fast approaching car, and shortly thereafter the blue lights. His reason for pulling me over: I had pulled over too closely behind the semi. My answer: Normally I wouldn't have done that but I saw a car fast approaching in my rear view mirror and wanted to get out of the way. He let me go.
Anyway, no excuse to speed, but, yeah, don't be nice and break the law to let someone tailgating you pass. Even if you can identify the car, It's quite possible it's an unmarked cop car.

<---- jealous. just got a 85 in a 55, but the flow of traffic is no slower than 70mph....bastard cops, why didn't i remember it was the end of the month.
oh yeah...the cops were HORRIBLE. Imagine only going 30 OVER the speed limit😕
If the far right lane is going no less than 70mph and he was in the far left lane, I would consider it the correct speed. Who the hell follows the speed limit on highways anyways.
riiight....cause we all know the speed limit changes based on what lane you are in....
If you speed you run the risk of getting a ticket. The more over the speed limit you go the better your chances. Deal with it

 So you should go the same speed, independent of whichever lane you're in? Go the speeed limit in the inside lane? Block the flow of traffic? That's real safe you self-righteous ass hat.

why would you do that?
so he won't get a ticket.
Maybe he's watching too much of the world craziest police chase and wasn't thinking at the moment.

If that was aimed at me, I was going ~67-68 mph in a 65mph zone. That's where my needle was anyway. With the way speedo's are calibrated, I very well may have been going 65 on the dot.
I accelerated to 85 though. Slowed back down to 65 after putting some distance between us and then he rode my ass again for a while, then finally pulled me over. I still deserved the ticket for taking off, but that doesn't take away from him being a dick.

Cops don't pull you over for going 3 mph over the speed limit unless you are in Mayberry RFD
