I was passing a semi at night on the Interstate, do about 5 mph over limit. Behind me, a car comes up and sticks to my rear bumper, moving slightly side to side like the driver was going to run me over. Naturally, I hit the gas to allow the car to pass. And naturally, I got a ticket for the cop in the car behind me for about 20 mph over the limit.

I got a verbal warning once for being kind like that. Longer story, but, same basic tactic.

Then on a family trip I was in the left lane with a semi in the right. I was also passing at a few mph over and saw a car approaching quickly from behind. Only I had seen the cops staked out at the weighing station and suspected it was one of them.

So, I slowed down, signalled, and pulled in behind the semi. As did the fast approaching car, and shortly thereafter the blue lights. His reason for pulling me over: I had pulled over too closely behind the semi. My answer: Normally I wouldn't have done that but I saw a car fast approaching in my rear view mirror and wanted to get out of the way. He let me go.

Anyway, no excuse to speed, but, yeah, don't be nice and break the law to let someone tailgating you pass. Even if you can identify the car, It's quite possible it's an unmarked cop car.

It'd be funny if he had a camera and still got your plate number.

No. It would've been funny if he lost control of his vehicle and plowed it into a tree.

yep. would have been nice to see the semi driver post the story of how an idiot plowed into a tree while trying to outrun the cop.

Thank god for no unmarked cop cars in Ohio.

oh yeah...the cops were HORRIBLE. Imagine only going 30 OVER the speed limit😕

If the far right lane is going no less than 70mph and he was in the far left lane, I would consider it the correct speed. Who the hell follows the speed limit on highways anyways.

riiight....cause we all know the speed limit changes based on what lane you are in....

If you speed you run the risk of getting a ticket. The more over the speed limit you go the better your chances. Deal with it

 So you should go the same speed, independent of whichever lane you're in? Go the speeed limit in the inside lane? Block the flow of traffic? That's real safe you self-righteous ass hat.

Nice job man. Don't mind all these elitist keyboard warriors trying to bring you down. You got away and no one got hurt. Good enough for me.

...as opposed to you anarchists with a car, "I'm gonna stick it to the man" fvckstains that intentionally break the law and endanger my life so you can save 30 seconds on your commute.

In this case, no one got hurt. The next time could be different.

I seriously doubt that he was going 30 over just to...keep up with traffic. Lame excuse...next!

Nice. I guess you get lucky once in a while. 🙂

I was going home from my GF's (now wife) home late one night after getting into a fight with her. I was kind of ticked off so I was speeding a bit. Some guy in a black mustang blew by me on the FDR drive in NYC so I started tailing him in my Prelude SH and got ahead of him. Just then I saw flashing lights in my rear view mirror and they followed me as I slowed and changed lanes. I pull over look out the window and saw that the cop also pulled over the Mustang. I waited about 15 mins for the cop to come over but got impatient and went up to him. He looked at me like what do you want and told me to leave. So I took off.

Speaking of cops, I saw a funny unmarked police car this weekend. I saw a burgandy color Crown Vic with all the antennas that pulled over someone. On the side of the CV it had a For Sale sign. Nice high tech camouflage.

There are too many unmarked cars out here where I live. They have Camaros, Mustangs, F150's....you never know for sure if there's a cop around or not. I've been pulled over by one of the Camaro cops before after he baited me. He was tailgating me for a half mile or so, slowing down then speeding up then slowing down. Finally I bit and took off (I was driving my Firebird at the time...him in a Camaro). Sure enough, he caught up and as soon as I thought "I wonder if that's a...", he pulled me over.

His reason for initially tailgating me? "I'm not as young as you are anymore and I had to get close to read your license plate."

How fast were you going when you noticed the cop?

If that was aimed at me, I was going ~67-68 mph in a 65mph zone. That's where my needle was anyway. With the way speedo's are calibrated, I very well may have been going 65 on the dot.

I accelerated to 85 though. Slowed back down to 65 after putting some distance between us and then he rode my ass again for a while, then finally pulled me over. I still deserved the ticket for taking off, but that doesn't take away from him being a dick.

so he won't get a ticket.

Maybe he's watching too much of the world craziest police chase and wasn't thinking at the moment.

No, that can't be it... On THAT show, the bad guy NEVER gets away. Personally, I'll bet that speeders sucessfully outrun the cops about 20% of the time. They'll never show one of THOSE chases on TV, though, because they don't want to be putting ideas in the heads of kids that they actually have a small shot of getting away with it.

Sure, the cops probably copied down their license plate number, looked up the address info, and arrested them at home later... But that doesn't make for good TV now, does it? 🙂

Cops that write speeding tickets have become simply put ahole tax collectors.

I remember getting pulled over twice as a kid, both were bs in my opinion(12 over on an empty road and light was changing and I made a left...I only had 1-2 wheels under the light before it turned red) but I get let off with a warning each time.

Lately, wife has gotten pulled over a couple of times(speed trap in Va--Out of State plates means instant $$$ to the popo, going 15 over in a work zone where we hadn't seen a single worker in a month) and I have as well (speed limit goes to 55-45-35 in the blink of an eye yet there is no need for the 35 except for cops to stake it out.

All these times we were nice, cordial, saying sir, pulling off where the cop would not be in harms way, hands on the steering wheel. All 3 times I thought we might get a warning, but no the little ahole came back with a ticket.

I have evaded once since then as under my previous experience I would never get a warning.

I have absolute respect for law enforcement that does everything else but write speeding tickets, but imho modern day ticket writers have made their own bed

Cops don't pull you over for going 3 mph over the speed limit unless you are in Mayberry RFD

Hence the "him being a dick" part. He got me to take off and go about 85. My ticket was for 82. If I wouldn't have took off, I wouldn't have gotten the ticket.
