EV SonicXJR 2.1 speakers $19.99 compusa b&m

In store, they had a price display of "Unadvertisted special $19.99"

These are them, right here!

Except the online price is $90. In-store is $20.

I saw these at the Tukwilla, WA store on 12/14/03.... They were unmarked on the shelves, but stacks of them scattered around the store WERE labeled with the "Unadvertised special" sign.

I have listened to both these and the EV SonicXS's talked about in another thread, and they do not compare in quality -- especially the bass.

However, they are much smaller and better looking than the XS model.

For $20 out the door, this is HOT!

does anyone know if you can get two sets of these, and then plug them into your sound card (one on the front speakers out, and the other on the back speaker out), and get 4.2 sound? I may get them if I can. 🙂

if your compusa have the ev sonic 2.1 xs, the bigger version of the xjr, for $49.99, i would recomend getting the xs over the xjr because the xs sub is much better than the xjr.

I don't know what would stop you. With the bass doubled up on the XJR, it will likely sound decent.
I think it would be annoying to have 2 seperate volume controls, though.

I'd choose 1 pair of the XS's over 2 of the XJR's anyday.
If you doubled up on the XS model (red hot @ $50 if you can find them), it would sound like you're standing in the middle of a rock concert.

Something to note about the XJR, in addition to being weaker than the XS, is the fact that the on/off switch is on the back of the sub on the XJR. On the XS, the on/off is controlled via the volume switch on the right speaker.
Not a huge deal, but it might annoy some of you.

They rate them quite high, and think the bass is adequate. I personnaly think the bass is weak, but it may be that I've spoiled myself with the XS model. Regardless, I've listened to these and they sound quite nice. No better deal for $20.

Yeah, maybe I've been spoiled by my Cambridge Soundworks system, so I guess I've never heard a bad computer speaker set before. The SonicXS are definitely worth 30 or 40 or 50, whatever price it is that you may find it for. I did connect two sets of the XJR's into a 4.2 setup, and the bass was still weaker then my Cambridge Slim500's. If it's better then what you have now though, $20 is probably worth it

just to warn...

check everything when you get it, took me 3 tries to get a none defective one. it's better to get the xs...i got jrxs for $11 awhile back and dont think they are worth 20. i advise on waiting for a better speaker deal to roll by, unless you really need one now.
