Microsoft announced the sudden news in a blog post this afternoon, from Microsoft Studios' European boss Hanno Lemke.

It revealed the news that Fable Legends - long in beta, and even longer in development - was no more. Microsoft also said it was "in discussions with employees about the proposed closure of Lionhead Studios" - a legal requirement for a company over a certain size.
Who was looking forward to this? Not my thing.

Da fuq? I thought this game was being looked forward to by a lot of people. It doesn't seem to make sense to just throw all of that away.

Unless the game was in development hell and not looking good. It's probably for the best. I'm sure we haven't heard the last of Fable though. Perhaps this means one of MS's other developers will start making a proper sequel and not the F2P spinoff that Fable Legends was.

It had been in Beta since October 2014, those who were in the beta basically said it was a grind-fest with very little substance to actually draw Fable fans besides the art and name.

Ah, I see my impressions of it were off base. I hope someone takes it in a new direction and it's not simply the end.

I'd like to see Rare tackle a Fable game. I don't think Rare has ever really done a RPG, but I think they could do it.

Molyneux created some amazing games at Bullfrog, but since he started Lionshead the idea of his games were always better than the reality. I realize he hasn't been there in a few years, but Fable is still his brainchild, and the whole series is rather meh.

I played the crap out of Fable (pre TLC) on Xbox and had a fun time with it and replayed it several times. I loved the look and the beautiful score, very dreamlike. Unfortunately, that enjoyment did not carry over to Fable 2 - I never even completed it and it felt like a chore. I can't say I was all that interested in Fable Legends so I didn't really follow it. Was it going to be an MMO or something?

I think so. I couldn't figure it out. The combat was pretty bad imho. The look was actually pretty great. That was what it had going for it.
