What's the benefit of 2.6.9 over 2.6.8 (what I have)? Is there a legitimate reason to use the updated one?

Well, put it this way, I currently have arch linux (installed version 0.6) and it came with kernel 2.6.3

did a system upgrade using pacman. gave me a really screwed up version of kernel 2.6.9 that I coudn't do anything with so just downloaded the latest kernel version from kernel.org

check the changelog to see what the differences are between those two versions.

if you personally believe it would be a good enough reason to change(upgrade) , go for it.

i saw a porno once where some private eye was looking for a chick... the only thing he knew about the chick was that when she does the dirty, she screams "eureaka". i had no idea what it meant. but yeah.... so everytime i see/read/hear the word eureaka, i'm thinking pr0n 😛

I wish anything past 2.6.7 worked for me. Stupid IRQ Nobody Cared! error. argh.

2.6.7-rc3-love1 running like a champ 🙂

but i rather something that i have more control over.

I love arch linux. sooo much more fun then mandrake.

mandrake i would consider a tool.

arch linux i would consider a toy you can use as a tool 😉

Different bugs. 😛

Exactly. I'm happy with 8 and have no real reason to change to 9. 🙂

The IPTables DoS bug might be in .8, but that shouldn't matter much for most systems.

Mandrake is the Windows ME equivalent of linux.

Actuallly....I would think Redhat is closer to Windows ME then Mandrake.

Mandrake is really not all that bad, except that it makes you lazy. that's why i switched.

Redhat on the other hand (redhat 9 in particular) is a real disaster
