this is great

@SyFy was getting hammered on twitter last week when they announced the mere 6 episode season for Eureka and was backpeddling saying they had no plans to cancel they just wanted to limit the order since season 6 is so far out

I'm not happy about it, but I can't say that I am surprised. After Season 4 abruptly changed everything I have had a hard time reengaging with the characters.

I got bored somewhere in season 3. I thought the show was older than 5 seasons. Did they take a break or something?

This was one show where I liked the characters and not the plot. Every episode was essentially the same plot-wise, but the characters were what really made the show interesting. Sad to see it go.

I guess SyFy will replace it with WWE reruns or something.

You'd almost think the SyFy execs were a bunch of idiots who had no fucking idea how to run a "science fiction" channel.

That's because it's not the "Science Fiction" channel anymore, it's "SyFy" which means "Science Fantasy".

Also, HG Wells WH13 spinoff? :( The only two characters I've seen Jamie Murray were completely unlikable and unsympathetic; I don't care for her.

edit: I just hope that they'll be able to wrap up the storyline WRT Allison and whoever it was that put those implants in her brain.

I watch a lot of SyFy, never liked Eureka. I disagree with a few here though, Alphas is good, quite good.

They have 4 really good shows in Haven, Warehouse 13, now Alphas, and by far their best is Being Human. Caprica was the most intriguing, I think they dropped the ball there. Sanctuary is decent as well.

I wouldnt call any of them GOOD, but decent for sure, but I never liked Haven, not quite my thing. I enjoy WH13 and alphas(atelast ep1-3), but I love campy shit which WH13 is full of

i found too much bad acting even for me in the first 2 eps of sanctuary, heard it got better though

Actually, I have to agree with this... It got all weird with the storyline.

Sucks. Eureka did need new writers, but its concept and characters are excellent. I even thought the altered time line hook was interesting, although the show itself had gotten a bit too soapy. Besides Warehouse 13 it's the only SyFy show we watch.

To be fair it's a bit expensive to produce. Depending on the episode it can be CGI-heavy, and more to the point it's a long running show which means talent costs are high. SyFy's problem is that they can't afford to do any expensive shows; this means they can only do reality shows and newer dramas where costs are low. This is why Being Human was renewed with only 60% the viewers - it's very cheap to produce. They're going to run into the same problem with Warehouse 13 in a year or two if this keeps up.

No, "SyFy" is their way of trademarking their name; since SciFi is a generic term, they couldn't do it with that. It still refers to science fiction.

Eureka writers should have written in some ghost hunting aliens that came to Earth, but ended up becoming pro wrestlers. THAT would have kept it on the air for another season or two, at least!!

You kind of get that impression when each season takes two years to air...

They plan half the season in the summer, then lay out promo info saying the second half of the season will begin airing in January, the January comes along & nothing. Feb & nothing. March and nothing.

No promos for when the show actually does begin up again, and then wonder why the ratings dropped...

Isn't Eureka their second most watched show?
Their most watched show is WWE wresting. This is followed by Warehouse 13, and as of the last two weeks Eureka. I don't believe there are any SyFy shows that are on break that pull the 2mil+ viewers needed to beat Eureka.

So Eureka is still canceled, but there is some good news.

SyFy has gone back and forth on how they want to end it. Now instead of abruptly ending at the end of the 13th episode of the 5th season, they've ordered one more episode for season 5, bringing it up to 14 episodes. This is less than the 6 episode "mini-season" would have provided, but given that the rest of season 5 is near the end of production, this will give them enough time to do something for a finale. I'd assume they'll rush a script through and tack it on to the end of the current schedule, but we'll see.
