Is that how European companies are treated in Europe as well? You get too successful, then they smack you down? Hmm...perhaps that's why there's no great companies there and, if there are, please let me know so I can whine and cry until they give me their industry secrets.

research: Siemens

WorldCom

ooops.

the FCC/FTC are currently pawns of the administration. texaco and exxon merge to form the largest US oil company, and do you think prices would be lower today if they hadn't? are they really going to pass the savings along to us or pocket it? FCC lettings cable companies go ape and raise rates many times inflation. the ONLY TWO satellite TV companies merge and overnight they raise rates.

if nobody here is going to monitor our companies, atleast someone over there will.

you don't even want to know what shrub has done to the EPA

pop quiz...guess which other country found MS guilty of abusing their monopoly power.

Question #2: How much was Microsoft fined by that other country?

Fined? you mean rewarded
if I remember correctly they got a great deal to supply all the schools with their software at a discount, meaning their software got even more recognision

Microsoft should retaliate by refusing to sell anymore products or providing updates to europe

IBM and SAP would like MS to do just that. Several governments in Europe have already switched to Linux, that IBM is pushing hard in here.
I have a friend who is working for IBM, and he says they have 110 of 500 top companies in their pocket already using Linux...
If MS would retaliate, it would be a great day for IBM and other companies offering open source solutions.

Yeah, we'll see how much savings they have when they need to hire $200/hr techies to troubleshoot/upgrade their networks.

I'll let you in on a secret. IBM charges/hr the same amount for troubleshooting/upgradeing both Windows and Linux networks... WHY WOULD THERE BE A DIFFERENCE?

You missed the point. A computer literate secretary could administer and upgrade a Windows network. For Linux, you need expensive techs.

not quiiiitee

I admit that windows is simpler to administer but thats only because I am used to it and have worked with that for years. But it is by no means simple.

no means simple enough for a 4 year old child perhaps, but far simpler then linux. its simply a fact.

just all depends on what you are familiar with

I'm familiar with both and I'd say that Windows is 100x easier to use and more simple.

I think that a 7 year old kid would be able to understand and use Windows more competently than Linux.

Hah! I make a lot of money cleaning up messes created by computer literate secretaries. The Internet is flooded with viruses and DOS attacks thanks to computer literate secretaries. Windows is easy to administer. It is not easy to administer right. MCSEs earn less on the average because half of them are no more qualified than computer literate secretaries.

"BRUSSELS, Belgium - The European Union (news - web sites) declared Microsoft Corp. guilty of abusing its "near monopoly" with Windows to foil competitors in other markets and hit the software giant with a record fine of $613 million Wednesday. "

I am glad the EU has the integrity to do what the US did not. Microsoft needs to be punished for its illegal business practices.

Are you sure about this one? as a shareholder in Exxon/Mobil I think you are mistaking Mobil with Texaco as I would have remembered a Texaco merger as my share price/stake would have gone up even more :)

With re. to IBM and supporting Linux, I agree with the person who said they won't pay their linux techs much, if anything IBM should be investigated as a monopoly, or at least monopolistic in their sourcing contracts here in New England....they pay their techs bottom dollar, and this is comming from someone who worked for them for over a year.
