I call bullshit.

WMP, Outlook and other such bundled apps don't consume resources unless you are using them. WMP "slowing down" your PC is a crock of sh1t and you know it.

And since WMP is a mp3 player I would certainly expect it to be associated unless you tell something else to do it.

I'm glad you have no control over how Windows is deployed. If it were up to you I would buy a $2000 computer and it wouldn't even be able to play a CD out of the box.

You appear to be one of those bitter people that spell MS as M$ so I'm done talking to you :) Go find a Linux distro with 100x the "bundled apps" and be happy with that.

I said they should offer a version that doesn't come with CRAP I don't want, I know a lot of people are like me and would like a bare bone copy.

WMP shouldn't claim rights when I don't use it, I have Winamp installed, and at least 4 times somehow my mp3's magically started to open with WMP. As for Outlook and WMP not using resources, they take up disk space, I know hd's are hundreds of megabytes. But, space is still a resource. Also, I have to f*cking install Patches for holes in Outlook to keep my system safe from hackers, AND I DON'T EVEN USE OUTLOOK! I have zero option to uninstall Media Player, according to MS I need it. Messenger loads by default on every pc I've ever built, and it does slow down the boot process, not to mention it takes memory. When I ran Win98, I ran 98lite, which cleans IE off your system completly. I noticed an immediate difference in speed. And my stock XP install vs the one I hacked to hell. there's no compairson.

MS sucks, I run XP because I'm a tool, and also I'm scared if I install Linux and pubically state it, Steve Balmer will come to my house and murder me.

As for Linux, I did install it, it took a whole floppy! Neat being able to install exactly what you want. But what the hell, I might go try out Microsoft Movie Maker, as I don't see an remove in my add/remove progams. Hay maybe it's a good program!

Open Add/Remove programs in control panel. Hit the "Set Program Access and Defaults" button on the left. Problem solved.

I'm also quite certain your floppy based Linux install didn't include a media player and email program (or video editor or drawing program or telnet client or all that other "stuff" that most people expect from an OS). If you want something that featureless head over to bootdisk.com.

If you want to hate Microsoft go ahead. Just don't try to convince me to do the same with such weak arguments.

I can check email with Pine, ftp with ncftp and telnet with, well, telnet. I might be pushing a 1.4mb floppy for all that, but with a 2.88mb floppy I can have a Linux up and running that can do anything i need to do. Don't have a personal need for GUI and if it was possible I'd run XP in full screen CMD all day every day *shrug*

and my arguments aren't weak, when you buy an OS you should get an os, not an OS plus a sh!tty movie maker and tons of crap MOST people probably don't want. The same way I bitched when I bought Norton Utilities years back (win 3.1 version) and it decided to install stuff that had nothing to do with NU. XP is fine, I don't hate it, or hate Microsoft. I just hate their tatics to try and take over your pc. And there's no option to remove a lot of the stuff that comes bundled with XP, maybe Billy is doing me a favor.

Kids, this is just blatant anti-American backlash going on.

Then why do US courts fine MS too?

Uh. Are you even aware of what we are talking about? The US is not fining MS for this.

The US has fined MS over monopoly law violations. Why is it OK for them?
That's a little bit differant than the EU strongarming MSFT into giving their IP away...

according to a news article I read on this subject there is another hearing in the US about the same thing going on, in 2002 microsoft got the same job as with the EU, handing over documentation, they have still not done so so the case is still open. The EU seems to just work faster.

Simple, my Ford Taurus stock radio doesn't effect my cars performance. When I install XP (all I want to install..) my system runs slower because of processes in the background I don't need, and programs I don't want like Messenger loading when I boot up my pc. You best believe if my cars performance was effected by the radio I wouldn't have bought the car.
If you want to get technical running the radio does effect your car's performance, where do you think the electricity to run it comes from? Yes it's not a big deal on your stock less than 100 watt radio, but you get the point. And yes it will only effect either if and when they are running.

Just like Smilin said if you dont want the components they can be disabled with less effort than you've exerted complaining about them in this thread.

Does an alternater generate more charging power if the battey gets low? Or does it just generate x amount of power regardless and the excess is wasted? I'm leaning towards option 2, in which case it would not affect performance, unless you consider the brightness of headlights part of performance.

Doesn't matter anyway. The appropriate analogy would be a car manufacturer making the connectors for the head unit proprietary so it is difficult/impossible to install a standard third party system.
