Just like the title says, Microsoft has a deal right now with ETrust. All Microsoft Windows customers can get a free copy of ETrust Armor Security Suite (Antivirus and Firewall) plus a year subscription for virus updates.

http://www.my-etrust.com/microsoft/

I would qualify this as hot.

No need to worry just yet, it's not Microsoft's product ;)

Actually the thing about this that turned me on is that I know eTrust's Antivirus happens to be the one Microsoft uses across their enterprise...

...That is of course until they come out with an anti-virus software of thier own. :D

This is good stuff. I've been running the AV software for awhile and I can't complain. Didn't install the firewall since I'm using Zone Alarm and that's free too. Not a bad deal. :)

I have been using this product for some time and yes, this is a repost of sorts. The last time that they did this I got into it for the year of free updates. All is well and I had no infections. After the year, you will of course be asked for some $$ to keep going. Price is generally low and the product is good. No, there are no ties with the MS devil here. I have kept the service and paid the fees, figuring I got it for a year for free, so now I am getting it the second year for half price. :D
After this, I may just go to the AVG free version; mainly because I am a cheap ba$tard. LOL!! No complaints with the product though. I haven't used the firewall though as I use ZA pro.

Good stuff! Just loaded it up after my NAV subscription expired (those subsciption renewal popups suck) and it works great....even fixed a virus problem that NAV wouldn't fix.
Thanks!

Here is a direct download link, just keep in mind that you still have to register in order to get the license key.

FYI they start your year subscription as soon as you sign up, so if you plan on using this at some point you may want to bookmark it and than wait until you're ready to use it before registering.

EDIT: Link fixed, thanks NFS

Only a years subscription? :( Looks like I'll have to fork out the money to get my virus updates anyways...

Other then that the software works well!

Only one year? What do you want, free lifetime :p

CA's yearly renewals are cheap, I paid $6 one year, and then $10 this year. $16 for two years of a good product is very fair. I used to use this all the time when I worked at an ISP to clear up viruses that Norton could not fix.

I use their virus already. Wonder how good the firewall is ? Better then the free version of ZA or sygate ?

Been using it since it was freeware... Remember InnoculateIT? Current version has cool feature... it easily allows you to "snooze realtime protection" by right-clicking on the tray icon.

I wonder how much the second year of updates will cost under this deal? Heaven knows why I am so suspicious?
I do know that I was grandfathered in at $10 per year because I had an innoculateIT key. So I think I'll just stick to my guns for now, at least until I know what the second year+ is going to cost me. I am currently using a free version of Tiny Personal Firewall. It seems to be getting the job done.

Anybody have any better ideas for a free firewall that is as simple to deal with as Tiny Personal Firewall?

This isnt microsoft, it's Computer Associates (a totally seperate company).

To register for a free copy of Computer Associate's eTrust Armor Security Suite you will need to give them a valid email address, they ask for address and phone number as well however n/a is a valid answer.

Very interesting post JBAR but not very accurate. I could post the same type of info, from the very same site with a much more positive viewpoint. It's all in how you present it,isn't it? You only linked to the negative reviews, which are in a minority. Still important to discuss but not the whole story.
Instead, why don't we present the whole story that shows it has a 4 out of 5 positive rating and over 70% favorable rating. Sounds a bit different from what you were posting, doesn't it?
Look, I don't know what problems others may have had with this software and I certainly don't work for these folks. All I can say is that the AV part of the package works well and in many cases better than some of the "big boys" (cough, Norton, cough) in the business. I have absolutely no experience with the firewall part of this so I cannot review it here. I use ZA pro for that. The AV that is offered is excellent IMHO.

I love EZ antivirus. After trying a bunch of them I went with this one. For me it caught a virus that AVG didn't. Does not take a lot of system resources or get bogged down in Zip files (like Panda did).

Let's play the find bad software on CNet game!

Microsoft's IntelliPoint Driver is pulling a mere 14%!

I guess it's all in the eye of the beholder anyways...

BTW Buz2b, you must not have cought it earlier but the firewall is ZA Pro. It's the exact same application just branded differant.

I've only been using the AntiVirus for a short while, but I like what I've seen thusfar.
