etroubleshooting why my XP bluescreens

QueBert

Lifer
I get daily blue screens, typically the IRQL equal or less then one. Which reboots me to a "windows has recovered from a serious error"

been getting this for awhile, I have replaced everything in my PC, besides the memory and video card. I ran memchk for 4 hours and got zero errors, so I'm assuming it has to be the video card. It doesn't crash at any specific moments, it's very random. I can play a 3d intensive game for hours with no issues. So I know it's not a heat issue. My case is well ventilated, I have a couple 120mm fans, and a good heatsink.
who on here can decipher the XP mem dumps? I'm sure my video card is out of warrentee, and I don't really wanna replace a 9800 pro unless I absolutly have to.

wasn't clear on specs
current setup:
a64 3200+
Gigabyte NF3 MB
512meg Corsair XMS Pro
SB Audigy 2
200 gig SATA WD
200 gig Seagate IDE

tried clean installs of XP, everything. and nothing seems to help at all

I've had 3, an Enermax, Allied (not their cheapy one) and now an X-Connect. I've got blue screens with all 3. That's why I'm thinking it must be a video card issue. All my drivers are current, and I'm not running the Nvidia SW-IDE driver.

the video card fan is working, as for old drivers, this thing has been crashing on and off for over a year, I have always checked for newer drivers. Don't think older ones will help. The crashing is becoming steady, where before it might be once a week, or once ever few days. I don't think I get a day without one. And most of the time my pc is just idle.

I think I'm going to give up and order a new vid card from Newegg, the worst that can happen is, it won't work 🙂

*update*

got a new video card, still getting the blue screen. Only thing in my PC that hasn't been replaced now that I think about it, is the hard drive.

who on here knows how to read the dump xp makes when it crashes? After about 10 clean installs, and buying new mbs/cpu's etc etc etc... I'm about to throw this PC out the window 🙂

1) Did you install the nForce drivers?
2) Did you try the system with the windows drivers first, then with the nForce drivers?
3) What is the EXACT model of your mobo?
4) Did you test the memory with a program like Memtest86?
5) Did you try reseating EVERYTHING?
6) Did you run a mfg diag on the OS hard drive?

1. Yes, different versions just to check too
2. Not really, need the nForce drivers to be able to use my USB ports, don't think I could do much without the drivers installed.
3. Gigabyte GA-K8NSC-939
4. I ran Memtest for 4 hours, showed zero errors
5. I've tried 3 different MB's, 2 different CPU's, 4 PSU's. Only Memory stayed the same and Memtest tells me the memory is fine. This problem has been happening for almost 6 months, it's just been getting much more frequent lately.
6. I ran Lifeguard with no issues found.

one thing I've noticed on my new MB, when I get a bluescreen, when it reboots, about 1/2 the time the system hangs up durring the POST. when I click the reset button, it'll boot back to XP every time. Dunno what's causing this.

I am totally out of ideas, my dad suggested it's a program I have installed that's causing. I might try to reinstall XP clean and not install any extra software and go from there. Never heard of a program making XP do a "your system has recovered from a serious error" though

it's very annoying...

if ANYONE wants to take a look at my small dump lemme know, I just enabled the 64k dump. I'm sure I'll get at least one more crash today, if not more 🙂

1) What slot is your soundblaster card in and did you disable the onboard sound in BIOS? 2) Did you try moving it to a different slot?
3) Did you try bumping your CPU and RAM voltage up a little?

Just a tidbit from my experience. I had an Intel system a few months ago that went thru a similar thing. After replacing EVERY piece of hardware in the system, I finally RMA'd the CPU to Intel. The new CPU took care of the problem. Not saying this is your issue, but don't rule out a bad cpu.
