Ethics on threads or lack thereof

I'm new to this FS/FT stuff. When I replied to a request for an item by posting in the thread, I got 3 or 4 PMs wanting to buy what the author of the thread asked for. Couldn't you guys at least be upfront about it and post in the thread. I hope this isn't typical behavior.

Was it a unique item, one you'd be able to supply to one person only? Maybe the PMers were just hoping to be considered in case the 'thread author' ended up not wanting it or something.

Well good luck with your sale.

Thats because other people suck. Just ignore them, or tell them that they suck.

etiquette says that the person you are replying to gets first dibs on the item. If he is not interested, then the item is up for grabs. The other people contacted you thru PM because it is bad manners, and considered thread capping to try to make a deal with you in someone else's thread.

The PM'ers were respecting the OP by not posting in his thread. And unless they specifically requested that you not deal with the OP then what they did... contacting your privately... was in fact, correct. imho

:)

That's exactly how I'd feel...It would totally look like they were stealing the OP's business if they just did it in the thread...

Why didn't you just PM him the offer and reply to the thread with "YHPM" or somesuch?

Thanks for the info. I didn't think this needed to be complicated. Sorry for any confusion/trouble my noobness caused.
