I did find one thread about this but I'm curious....

I have recently started going for certifications and I was wondering if anyone knew the value of being a CEH.

Will this help me eventually get a better job or will this just increase my understanding of network security. I am thinking that I would be better off taking a class on this with hopes that there is some hands on stuff, I learn best that way.

Certifications only help a bit, real world experience helps the most. Also depends on what type of work you are wanting to get in on.

I'm not worried about experience, I have 6 years experience where I'm at now and 2 years owning a business on the side.... I'm looking for certifications now. I'm just wondering about CEH and how it can be of use to me over other certs right now. I am trying to get more into networking and security.... These are things I want to more "specialized" in.

I'm just curious as to what people think about the CEH cert... How valid is it in the eyes of others ect....

If you are going into computer tech... probably wont do you any good. (Will look good on the resume though)

Now if you are going into IT Security or something...

The security auditors I hire don't have CEH. CISSP, CISM, etc, yes, but no CEH.

Honestly "certified ethical hacker" is too much buzzword to take seriously. It's got Marc Maiffret written all over it.
