Ethical? Boxer with 4 arms.

OK. So you are the boxing commissioner and in charge of eligibility for the competitors. You are approached by a young up and coming boxer. The only problem is that he was born with 4 arms and has full use of each limb. His lifelong dream was to become a boxer and has decided that his 4 arms wouldn't deter him from his dreams. You know that he would totally dominate the sport since he has already torn up the amateur ranks by knocking out all his opponents in the first round. Do you let him compete for the Heavyweight Title? Or do you bar him from the sport for having an unfair advantage?

Well, he'd have to fight with two arms tied behind his back... 😛

bingo

The thing is that there are no rules in boxing which states that you can only use your two fists. So in actuality he can use all four limbs since there is no precedence set saying you must only have 2 arms.

Unless you, as the commissioner, say so.

so people who are genetically superior (in terms of the sport they are competing) should artificially be put at a disadvantage with the rest of the meat bags?

in that type of situation, that person should be allowed to compete.

just to relate it to something else, should that kid in germany who has the 2 genes that give him great strength never be allowed to compete in any sports because of his genetic superiority? should we drug him up so that we may knock him down in order to compete with that individual?
(currently 4 yay vs 8 nay)

edit: or people who are naturally smarter than others should be drugged up so that those who aren't can better compete. why tear down something better?

These are exactly my thoughts as well.

I'd let him fight. Then, as in all sports when it is clear something is unstoppable, make a rule against it.

For example. You no longer see the truely unstoppable "flying wedge" football play anymore. A simple rule change making a minimum number of players on the line of scrimmage put balance right back into the game.

So I'd let him fight, win a title, then make a rule having a maximum of two boxing gloves per boxer. Of course couple that with the rule that all punches must be with boxing gloves and problem solved.

How do you feel about weight classes in boxing then? Same deal.

weight is maniputable. growing extra arms aren't.

So you're admitting that it's OK to segregate competitors in some ways but not others?
