Looking for a Switch....

16 or 24 port
100Mbps (gigabit not necessary)
wiring is RJ-45 terminated Cat5e
internal power supply preferred
rackmount
have separate boxes for print server (HP JetDirect), wireless and router

connected PCs are WinXP and Linux

this switch will live behind a router for LAN file and printer sharing

this is home use so unmanaged is fine and price is a factor

I'm aiming for around $50 from a reputable brand

what would you recommend I consider?

sathyan, check out SMC. Their corporate family actually makes the switches for a lot of folks.
