Ethernet port not responding

I'm having problems with my network card. A while back I signed up for comcast broadband. They connected the cable to my computer via an ethernet cable and all was well in the world. A few weeks later I installed a new video card (subsequently deleting all the old video card drivers) After I had installed the card, my computer was no longer detecting my modem. The only way I could connect to the internet was via a USB2 cable. Today I bought awireless router and I can't get it to work, probably becasue it connects to my computer via the suspect ethernet port. Did I accidentially delet the driver for the ethernet port? Did I knock something lose when installing the new video card? When I open up my device manager under network adapeter is says 1394 net adapter #3 (which nevere shows any internet connectivity) and my motorola cablem modem. There was also a yellow question amrk for PCI bridge device that it could not find the drivers for. My system was built by ABS and I am unsure what network card was installed. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Jeff

Just another note. Every time I start my computer it says new hardwar foudn and tries (but cannot) find drives for other PCI bridge device. Also, I cannot connect to the internet if I connect the USB from my modem to any other USB port. I must be in the same spot for it to recognize the modem.

Yes looks like the nic needs to be re-installed. If you dont have any drivers and dont know what model the nic is, uninstall it and get a new one and instal it, they run 15-20$, and are not difficult to install, as they come with drivers on a cd/floppy. So you install it, and boot up and after it is recognized, stop auto detection and click on Have disk etc etc.

If you go to Control Panel> Network Connection, and right click to get its properties, in the general tab it will say connect using <Name of the NIC>. If thats not there due to the faulty install, most nics are usualy clearly labelled with name of the mfg and model #.

Buy another NIC? What? lol

Card worked before the video card install correct?

Sounds like it might be IRQ conflicts. Is the Network card onboard or is it in a PCI slot? Pull off the case or panel and see if you can't tell from looking at the back of the PC. FYI, this should be in the Tech Support section really. This isn't a networking issue.

From my experience, looks like the PCI NIC (aasuming that you have got a NIC Card) isn' fully in contact with your PCI slot contacts. What you could do is remove the NIC, clean the contacts with a swab moistened with a little IPAlcohol, or alternatively rub it with a little application of WD40 or any contact cleaner. This should solve your problem, failing which you could change the slot and see.

If it still pops up a message asking you to install drivers try installing the same, but not the regular option. You have to click on "Display all drivers" and then click on the " have disk". If you do not follow this option, chances are you will never replace the existing drivers which may be corrupted.

If all these options fail, duly replace your network card.
