Ethernet or USB for cable modem, only one computer

I just got a cable modem and it seems my 3COM nic is dead. It was an old 905 (not a B or C).
I hooked up the cable modem into the USB port and it seems fine, although I have no point of reference.
Is there any reason to go buy a new NIC if I have no need or want to hook up any other computers to it?

Thanks,
Mark

the only real difference is speed and CPU usage. If you are a gamer, you are going to want a PCI network card, preferably 3com or intel. But if you're just using it to surf the web, then USB is ok. Thoroughput will not change thru the connection (cable uses only 10mbps (max) and usb is good for 12) but USB does usually eat a greater number of CPU cycles than a PCI NIC because the work is done in software.
