Yes, you definitely want to keep the recovery phrase someplace secure. If you're really paranoid, intentionally write the wrong one in one spot, and you will be the only one who knows what word is wrong and what it should be.

I want to make sure I change the word with something that is actually in the list. Otherwise it would be very easy to tell what is the incorrect word I'm guessing.

Thanks, just upgraded my miners. Noticed a nice speed bump on my 480 rigs but less so on my 390's and Fury cards. Mining is become less profitable by the week but given it's Jan 2017 and it's still profitable to mine I'm pretty happy how things ended up. Party will probably be over soon and I'll have a lot of gear to unload!

I am doing it gradually. I unloaded all my Hawaii cards last week. At the end of January away goes the Tahiti and Pitcairn. At the end of February I will sell off every other card I don't plan to keep.

I might keep a few extra Polaris cards than I originally planned to keep just in case something new worth mining pops up in a year or two.

I think they do, but only the Ledger Nano S and Trezor support ether, AFAIK. And the Ledger is more likely to support the various tokens on the ethereum network in the future. So I picked one up when it went on sale for Black Friday. My eth stash is getting valuable enough that it made sense from a security standpoint anyway.

Thanks for the advice - same situation here, probably left it for too long but I do need some hardware protection. Going to order the 6-pack and pawn a couple off to my friends 🙂

No idea what dictionary is used. Judging from my own words I'd say any ordinary noun, verb, adjective, or adverb would be difficult to distinguish as something that stands out. But you could always send the Ledger people an email and ask.

Another idea would be just to swap the numerically assigned order of several generated words rather than changing the words altogether. You really just want to ensure you have enough time to restore and transfer your wallet contents if compromised.

I think the EVGA Ti OC cards have a little higher boost clock than the Zotacs? I should also state I'm overclocking the memory and core a little but noticed the largest gains from the memory overclock. Even with the power restriction it still boosts to around 1800mhz on the core. Efficient little cards these are.

Maybe. This one goes to a little higher than 1700. So far, ram is up to about 1950 overclocked. Still under 80% of the power limit. Time to hook up the killawatt and figure what my mining cost with this is.

Doesn't have the 2D jerkiness and video playback problems that the 1070 I had did either. All in all pretty pleased.

However, I thought the seed was per wallet? So one for BTC, one for ETH, etc. Is that not the case? So say you have a BTC wallet and also an ETH wallet on it, you only need the one 24 word list to recover ALL accounts?

on more thorough testing the 2D jerkiness and video playback issues are there, but it's not as big an issue for this box as it was for the 1070, which was in my main computer.

Correct, your wallet seed is the same for all crypto per device. This is also the way Jaxx works but with a less secure 9 or 12 words recovery password (forget the number of words but it's definitely not 24).

Yeah BTC took a dump and dragged some altcoins down with it. ETH down to maybe $9.60, ZEC down to $40, XMR down to ~$11 or so. Pretty bloody for the short-term traders.

ETH will be fine in the long term. Just get to PoS already . . . that's when the feathers fly.

Yes, but frankly for the last month (and today) you will most likely make more ETH mining ZEC and trading it for ETH than straight mining ETH. Every time ETH profitability gets better the difficulty rises a day later and everything evens out.

ETH will be fine in the long term. Just get to PoS already . . . that's when the feathers fly.

That is when I expect the next major price rise.

Due to news that China's government plans to inspect the various Chinese crypto exchanges next week to make sure they're not involved in money laundering, tax sheltering, or market manipulation. Which they probably all are.

Edit: In retrospect, maybe it's a good thing the Chinese exchanges have all refused to trade ether.

Good buying opportunities if you have some Fiat at the moment. Too bad when BTC drops, it takes the alts with it. Prices will rebound, they always do. China's been inflating trading volumes for a while now. Hopefully they get reprimanded for it but I'm not holding my breath. Long term this will be a blip. We have India buying up BTC now and need to push to decentralized exchanges so we're not subject to inspection by corrupt governments. Bad in the short term (buy the dips) but better in the long run for everyone but Orwellian governments.

Got my Nano S too. I feel so much more secure now and not having to mess with syncing blockchains is a real bonus! Moved my almost-worthless Dogecoins on there, now I have access to my BTC/Eth/Doges all on one stick. Still trying to figure out where to store my 24-word recovery sheet. 😎

I wonder why they didn't include a push-out USB plug so we can plug this directly into a USB port? Is it due to security reasons or to reduce the size of the Nano S? Hate having to carry around an additional Micro USB cable now everywhere.

I bought something similar to this to hang on my keychain, but unfortunately cable is faulty, only powers on my devices but cannot transfer data.

I've compared my personal stats to "what to mine" and they never quite agree, in my personal experience zCash and ETH are currently just about equally profitable.

That was my first thought as well, but imagine trying to enter the PIN or especially seed while it's plugged into the port?!! 😀

I've compared my personal stats to "what to mine" and they never quite agree, in my personal experience zCash and ETH are currently just about equally profitable.

It may depend on the hardware but I've had better power consumption with mining ZEC over Eth, even with the latest ZEC Claymore updates. The price of both currencies bounce around quite a bit so if selling for Eth for a good profit it can be a bit tricky to get timing right. Overall I've found ZEC to be a little more profitable but not nearly as much as WhatToMine would lead you to believe.

I've just continued mining eth. I don't think I'm down that much compared to where I would be if I had mined zcash and sold for eth. Plus the whole time I'm actively helping support and secure the ethereum network which I believe in for the long term. And it will simplify my taxes. At least in the US, every time you sell ZEC for ETH the IRS considers it a taxable event. If you're converting to BTC in between, that's another taxable event.

Yeah it all depends on your situation and it's good to calculate it for yourself. For me I think my Polaris hardware is break even, but for Tahiti or Pitcarin ZEC has a clear advantage. It's good to know for yourself.

With that said, a month ago ZEC was a clear winner. Thanks to ZEC I am almost a month ahead of where I expected to be.

Make sure you plug in the proper settings in config.txt first, or you will wind up mining to someone else's wallet address.

1. Do I just copy my wallet file name into the -ewal option in the config.txt? No need to point it to the local file path?

2. Also my desktop 2D performance takes a huge dump during mining, is that normal?
