Eternal Darkness

So do you all think there will ever be a new Eternal Darkness ? Maybe cross platform for PS3 and 360 or maybe even on the Wii since the last was a Gamecube game.

Whoever played Eternal Darkness for the Gamecube, what is your opinions on the game ?

Dyack - Strong Change of Eternal Darkness Sequel

Alright, this isn't officially Xbox 360 news, but given Silicon Knights' current relationship with Microsoft, we're fairly confident that it could be. Speaking to TVG at Microsoft's Spring Showcase, Silicon Knights head Dennis Dyack had some hopeful things to say regarding an Eternal Darkness sequel. After noting that Silicon Knights doesn't want to be "pigeon-holed" into any specific genres, he admitted, "There's a strong chance we'll return to it, but there's no announcements yet." This marks the best news we've heard about a possible sequel since 2006. That joyous yet vaguely disturbing sound you just heard was a worldwide nerd-splosion of the highest order.

The other thread you just started, please see my post 🙂

I really hope we get a sequel.

Need to sink into the floors some more, or bugs crawling up my television. Maybe even memory card error messages. :sun:

Yeah, I never had a Gamecube so I didn't get to play it but heard great things about it. SK is so dedicated to a Too Human trilogy(?) now I'm wondering if we'll see it in the lifetime of the current generation though. Maybe if Too Human bombs?

I can say this though about Eternal Darkness. When I first bought it years ago, and started playing. I thought it was great.

A little ways through the game, it actually messed with my *sanity*. NO JOKE. My hands would shake, would get a nervous feeling to where I actually had to turn it off. My wife and I returned the game.

But then six months later..purchased it again and finished it. It was just a totally different experience for me.

While the graphics weren't the best for the Cube. I thought they overall was still pretty good.

Actually, I may run up to Gamestop in a bit and purchase it again. Just for nolstalgia.

I'm just imagining the things they could do with sanity effects, given the better technology available today and the amount of time they've had to come up with new ideas.

I really really hope this gets made! I played it quite a bit on my old GameCube, but I never actually finished the game. Loved it, though.

your returned the game?!?! Bahahaha. I played it a bit, the graphics were shit for some reason (as if they were originally intending to make it a DC or ps2 game)

I'm in a different boat... I have the game but no longer have a GC! I'm actually considering buying a used one from Gamestop just so I can play this game again. I'd also like to fire up my Zelda disc with Ocarina/MM but primarily just want to play ED. I really loved that game.

While I really enjoyed Eternal Darkness (enough to play it through the three different modes), I'm not sure if the gameplay mechanics or the storyline really lend themselves to a sequel. Yes, the sanity effects were cool and frequently hilarious, but once you became aware of them, they were more of a gimmick than a game mechanic.

Another Silicon Knights action/puzzle adventure game would be dreamy, though.

I thought it was overrated, picked it up based on all the good word of mouth, and found it meh.

Same, but I did finish it. The last stage was a TOTAL drag, but most of the game was fairly interesting. I loved the way the game played with your head, especially when you'd walk into a room and it would pretend to BSOD. But otherwise, I thought it wasnt quite as good as RE.

I was one of the very few people that didn't like ED. The sanity effects were neat...the first time.
I didn't really enjoy playing it, it seemed to drag for me and I didn't like the story all that much.
I remember at the time it was a hard to get title and ended up selling it for what I paid for it, so that was nice.
The only game that had me freaked out was Fatal Frame (on XBox if I remember correctly). I never played the second one.

Same, I think people got me too hyped up about it but it turned out to be mediocre. I played a couple hours into it and sold it. Also, the graphics really aren't that good. It was originally intended to be an N64 game, so I'm guessing that is why.

i was never able to beat the game. I thought it was awesome until I got to this boss who appeared from the ground. I could never beat him, even with a strategy guide.

Hmm. I thought the graphics were really nicely done on ED... more the environtments then the player models, those were pretty generic. But I really liked the atmosphere of the game. I'd say it was one of the better games I've played, ever. Not incredible, but very, very good. The story starts out fairly slow, just enough to have kept me interested that I wanted to get to the next part of the game. By the time I was about half way through, I was hooked. I thought the way you played as Alex's ancestors was done pretty well. The melee fighting is pretty much the same for each charactor though... just some longer swords, some shorter (made a difference in close quarters vs. out in the open). But most of the charactors really felt unique. I loved playing as the church boy in medevil France. My other favorite was the WWII soldier.

I felt the mansion had such a great atmosphere. It sucked you in, almost like you were there. Running around as Alex, the creepy music, wondering what was behind the doors you couldn't open... it really was an engrossing game in my opinion. It really has a different feel then other survival horror games I've tried. This one really sucks me in, like I'm in the game vs. other survival horrors that are a lot like watching a cheesy horror movie. Just my $.02.

Use the rank 3 magick attack, not the higher ones, my first time fighting him was 45 minutes straight before I ended up dieing, took a few shots before I figured out if I downranked all the way I would land WAY more hits on him.

Overall ED ranks as my favorite game from that generation- I beat it all 3 ways mutliple times. I would love to see SK do a sequel to the game, I still have my copy of ED and still fire it up every now and then.

Heh. I was just about to buy this game for the GC (Got a GC for $30 + RE4, Mario Sunshine. going to buy Eternal Darkness, Metroid Prime 2, Zelda; Twilight Princess and Persia: Sands of time - pretty much top GC games per ign)
