et Laptop hibernation in XP doesn't work

I've set my laptop to hibernate after 45 minutes...but after i wait for 45 it doesn't go into hibernation even suspend (which i set for 20 minutes). How do i force it to do this? I have a Dell D600 laptop running WinXP Sp1. In my taskbar tray, all i see running is my symatec firewall, symatec virus scanner, and the usual stuff from microsoft (networking stuff, sound, wireless icons). Any help welcome, this is very irritating.

Set it to go into hibernation on the lid close or the power button. Then try it, if this works then just close it the rather than wait for it.

Although I recommend you reinstall your power management software.

i know i sound anal on this, but i want my monitor only to shut off when i close the lid. i want it to suspend, then hibernate after a certain amount of time. it's very irrtating that this setting doesn't work...grr
