Essential software for windows machine?

I've a list at http://amdsoft.com/essential-software-for-new-windows-box/ - it needs updating for 2011, wondering what you guys install on new machines.

What's the best AV this year - I've been using Avira since 2009, seems pretty good in the tests, and I think Grisoft have improved a lot since I originally wrote about them sucking in 2008. Also particularly interested in the K-Lite vs VLC battle.

Any other suggestions, particular free virtual machine software?

Are there any good alternatives to Foxit Reader?

Not really sure.
Main thing is I see very little hickups, it just works. Sounds dumb but i HATE hickups.. Fullscreen mode runs/looks flawless unlike my experiences with all other browsers.
Its fast enough(probably not the Fastest but oh well)

I hadn't ran IE since 6.0, no i can't see me going away from it.

What about anti-virus programs?

Microsoft Security Essentials is my choice, but I've also used Avira in the past and found it to work good. For malware, I use MalwareBytes Anti-Malware and run it a couple of times a week, or if someone else uses my system on the internet.
