When I read it, I just felt sad for you. It must be hell living with that level of alienation.

In keeping in the spirit in which this piece was written, you guys are WAY overreacting to what he wrote. I mean, come on. Disturbed, needing counseling? He wrote a freaking essay describing how stupid he thinks his peers and their rituals are. A fair portion of you probably agree that your peers in high school were pretty dang stupid. You may not have phrased it like he did, but he was in a certain position, using a certain medium, that you didn't share.

Get over yourselves already.

The essay begins by saying "it IS my opinion."
It's written in the first person regarding a situation that he is currently in.
Is it such a jump to assume idNut, who has previously posted here sharing feelings along the lines of his "character" in his essay, was writing from his own first person?

Ha we aren't the ones who wrote a 4 page treatise about how much other people suck for asking basic questions and acting like humans.

Some of us remember his prior posts. It is not as if this is an isolated case.

If you're not interested in it in the slightest, why the 3 page essay? It obviously means something to you if you're going to spend all that time writing about it.

Brilliant essay.

You are on the verge of sanity and truth. The truth being that mental posion has infected the minds of the people and continues to spread on a daily basis. That poison is the underlying cause of humanity searching outside of oneself for power.

It appears that you are attemtping to find your power within. I suggest you read either of the following books:

1. The way of the peaceful warrior - Dan millman

2. The four agreements - Don Miguel Ruiz

Now, I offer one tiny bit of advice for you. The world is crammed full of idiots who know not following their hearts but those that came before them. They conceed to tradition and their circular efforts offer nothing but quandry. Once you understand why they do this you will indeed be able to see them in a different light. Life is one big energy game. Blinded, most follow what makes them feel good as the donkey who follows the scent of the carrot. But somewhere between the time we are born and this moment right now, our blueprint of truth gets hi-jacked and scrammbled by society. And the bootstrapped mind becomes more and more jumbled.

It appears that you are attempting to find your way back to the blueprint. Pray out to the heavens and the subatomic particles that lie within everything. They will help you find your way back home.

Peace, my friend. Peace.

I'm halfway through it at the moment, by the way. I'm also not going to senior prom...

There's a course that you should look at. Actually, it's available through distance education through my school (www.uoguelph.ca) and you can take it online. You should really look into ZOO*1500 as it provides powerful insights to human nature as it pertains to evolution and biological drives.
This will relate to you especially in explaining reproductive drive and the human need for companionship/social structure.
The section which you would be most interested in is the second one and, even if you don't take the course, you should read the book "The new Science of Darwinian Medicine" by Neese and Williams. I think it's called something different in the USA.

Anyway, you'll look back at yourself as you are today someday and be ashamed...
I hope...

You need to get a reality check, maybe an SSRI or something and get LAID.

Oh, and one suggestion - It's High School, it doesn't really matter. In the next couple of years you will likely never see these kids and rituals again unless you stay in the town you currently live in.

The ones that are concerned about being cool and all that crap are generally the ones that get stuck in mediocrity or worse. Be more concerned about taking the steps necessary to succeed in life. Trust me, high school is the least of your worries.

Then why are you still coming here? Masochistic tendencies? If you know well enough the reaction a piece like this will engender amongst us, why on earth would you bother with it in the first place, let along bitch about the results?

I just wanted to see if my predictions were correct that the majority of replies would be negative as all hell with kind, sensible CC in the minority. And my predictions were correct.

This is definitely my last time I visit here. This forum has done nothing for me except make me feel horrible about myself and deepen my misanthropy. I hope I never meet any of you or people alike because I never suspected people out there to be so horrid and heartless. Yes there are the kind ones and I can't express how grateful I am for you being sensible but the majority of you I classify as horrible people that like to kick people when they're down to try and get them to stand up. I showed many people what gets posted on here and they can't believe it. This forum is also the reason I got out of technology because it does something to human hearts. I've noticied that all techys are alike: oblivious to human feeling and only see the science of things, disregarding consideration for others entirely. I don't want to know people like that.

So I'm done here and I know you're all glad (especially MacBaine) so you can all flame me into the ATOT Teen Angst History Manual of Things Not To Post Or Do.

Happy Easter.

Haha I don't have any comments on the point of the essay but your writing cracked me up. It reminded me of a science lab that one of my friends wrote in 7th grade. He believed that using "big vocabulary" made him smart. To accomplish this, he used the thesaurus feature of Microsoft Word and incorrectly used several words. Sometimes plain and simple language is more persuasive than an overflow of these "fancy" words.

Aw man, don't leave. I understand your feelings about the forum - if you write anything that hints at emotion, people will jump all over you - but I enjoy your posts. Blah.

PS. I often get laughed at and made fun of and subjected to anothers mental poison. I've been told to take psychiatric drugs. I've been told to go to counseling.

All because I refuse to conceed to a tradition or society that I have not lifted one finger to help manifest. This society is for braindead people and sheep and it's traditions are for uncreative morons. Everything is a trap for your mind.

But you are headstrong. Stay that way. Don't give in to anyone elses dribble.

Oh, and if you do take that course, fire me an email. I'll make sure I'm not TAing it!
(I just read that last post and realized how much of a dickhead you are. That last post shows that you're a moron. You said you knew what was going to happen - yet you posted anyway - then got upset when it happened. That's pretty stupid, don't you think?)

You see, there's a slight problem with that. It was billed as an essay, not as a piece where characterization is inherent like a story, soliloquy, or even such (traditionally) non-fictional works as pamphlets or treatises. Essays are understood to implicitly reflect fact and truth. He also wrote it in the first person and billed it as an explanation of his personal feeling. Now, all that combines to indicate that there is no fictional character base, that the piece is really a direct reflection of the writer. Were it billed as a piece on why students might not want to go to prom, your argument would have some weight to it. But, by ascribing all he does to the work, he is claiming it to be a direct reflection of himself and his inner feelings. As far as myself and others have seen it and are treating it, there is no fictional context to what it says.

Fiction or nonfiction, all authors are a step back from their work, and since no work can encompass an individual in entirety, all impressions of the author are, by necessity, a characterization to some extent.

And the extent here was very small...Face it, he was talking about himself!

Edit - Seriously though (. . . .) I once was like you (just take it down about 20 notches), and then I grew up. Sorry, but it'll happen to you too.

You know, I realized I made my name sh!t on these forums but when is time to let it go? This forum is the only place (on the net and in real life) that shows any hatred for me. I know I post weird sh!t on here but this is the only place, the ONLY place that ever says I'm some stupid teen that doesn't know jack sh!t, that needs to grow up out of this depression bullsh!t and has this infamous "teen angst" crap you all love to throw at me. I had about fifty people read that essay and I got nothing but positive responses. It was from people on the internet to people I live around.

I just don't understand why I can't ever get one single positive reply from this forum. Coming here I'm just labeled psychotic. I mean other people read this saying it's profound, deep and brooding and that I should try and get published. Here, teen angst, teen angst, pseudo-intellectual, pseudo-philosophical, psudeo-everything. I question if you all have no conception of my work, are simply ignorant to it and quick to insult or just using me as a target to shoot your own insecurities at. I really don't know.

Well real people wouldnt give u crap for it cause their talking to u in person or have to see you in person...you should take our opinions more strongly, they are completly (for the most part) unbiased.
Personally, I found the essay entertaining i guess, but a lot of it seemed to just be trying to throw in big words.
There were quite a few sentences that were really really good though...

If I was marking as a required assignment for any of my courses, I'd deduct 10% just because it annoyed me. I'd find as many grammatical or referencing errors as possible. If I couldn't find enough, I'd say it was too verbose. I hope you don't write your assignments for University (if you ever get there) like this, you'll do very poorly. The tone is very superior yet the writing is not efficient or well thought out. It's arrogant crap.
