ESRB Petition website

"The ESRB does not play the video games all the way through! First they have the publishers fill out a questionnaire to describe what is in the game. They then watch video footage of extreme content. When the final game is ready, they randomly play parts to make sure the questionnaire and the footage agree."

How scientific. I'm so glad the games are being rated impartially.

I don't get it, what are you complaining about? Are games too harshly rated? Not rated harshly enough?

they don't mention many of the factors they say they do. For example Duke Nukem:Manhatten Project they rate for violence, they do not mention the language, sexual inuendos or nudity in the game. They are not thorough enough

Realize though that Duke Nukem is also nearly 8 years old now; a lot has changed since then in terms of how thoroughly things are rated.

That maybe true but it is up to you as a parent to thoroughly research a game/movie before allowing your children to play/view it. People need to take responsibility and stop being so lazy.

this site is suppose to help them do that, but how useful if they only mention half of what's in there? Let alone the fact that they don't play the games all the way through. they do a decent job, but there is room for improvement.

yeah its your job to research the games for your kids, and im sure that if they were to review every game in its entirety nothing would get done (it would take awhile). So the ESRB hopes that the devloper is honest in the questionaire etc. I havent seen many games mislabeled, cause im pretty sure the violent ones are considered adult, so the language shouldnt be a problem since its already labeled for adults only. Parents need to take more rebonsiblity instead of expecting a 3rd party to accuratly rate and review every game for them so the parent doesnt have to be involved with what their child is palying.

But why take the effort to determine if the game is suitable for your specific children when the research group deemed Representative Of Children Ages 11-13 Inclusive can do it for you through Funded Government Research? 😛

TV ratings work similarly too- the broadcast networks assign ratings to their own shows.

These ratings don't do shiat; putting a "Mature" rating on a game makes it all that more appealing.

I do agree that there is room for improvement. Same as there's room for improvement in the parenting skills of a person who solely relies on these ratings. 🙂

I'm sorry I was referring to Manhatten Project
Was there nudity in DN:MP? It's been so long since I've played it, I remember that you rescue a babe at the end of each level, but I don't remember any nudity.
