Espresso at home? Anyone got a machine?

Just ordered a Rachilio Silvia, have been using a Chinese knock off for years, figured I'd move up in the world of espresso machines...

I've got a Nespresso machine by De Longhi, and I love it. it's pretty much fool proof and the coffees are only about 68 cents to make.

Buy a Bialetti for 40 or 50 bucks and call it a day. No need for fancy plug in machines unless you're going to start making lattes or cappuccino.

I have Gaggia Titanium super automatic and it's my most used kitchen appliance after the fridge and the stove. I've had it for several years now and made several thousand of cups and the unit has more than paid for itself multiple times. I don't go to Starbucks or Dunkin Donuts anymore for coffee or espresso. I get up and push a button and my perfect cup is waiting for me in less than 60 seconds. Love the device and would buy similar replacement tomorrow if the unit failed.

I got a Saeco Aroma from Costco a few years back. I wasn't that impressed with it until I replaced the crappy pressurized portafilter with an aftermarket non-pressurized one. The difference is amazing. Make sure you get a decent grinder BTW, the Silvia is supposed to be a great machine but a mediocre grinder will seriously hold you back.

Bialetti stove model here. Loving it. It makes super rich and dense coffee, the way I like it. The machines I do feel have an edge on the stovetop ones and produce MUCH better foam. However the taste from the stovetop one is the same if not comparable and wont cost me a fortune. The stovetop machines also have one replaceable part, a rubber o-ring that will last years if taken care of.

If I want coffee with foam on top, then I just brew Turkish coffee instead.

I have a KitchenAid machine. I probably use it 7 times a week.. maybe not everyday.

Dual boilers
15bar pump
overflow valve

Paired with a good grinder it makes a very good and consistent brew.

I think the brand we have is Brevile or something like that. I love it!

Here's another vote for Breville, an Austrailian company. Great buy for the money.

The one downside of these machines is that you have to clean them after every use ... even if you make only one cup.

That's true but it's not like the cleaning takes long. It really is no different than other appliances if you think about it. I always wipe down my mixer and food processor after using them.

I moved off my espresso machines - I enjoy more coffee vs. better tasting - so I'm all french press these days. Not that I don't enjoy a nice latte, but those I'll go buy.

Ooh Silvia, good pick. Make sure you get a good grinder. And totally spring for PID if you don't want to get into the whole temp surf thing.

I don't thoroughly clean it daily. I just rinse out the coffee grounds, then run the machine once without any coffee. Approx 1/wk, I'll give it a good scrubbing.

I wish I had that money =(

I use this

We got a jura capresso ENA as a wedding gift. We used to use it religiously and now are drinking less coffee so it is mostly for special occasions.

I just use the stovetop model. To me it's just easier and less expensive. But then again I don't have espresso every single day.
