Why don't they show a bunch of 14-16 year old kids competing for largest e-peen status on ATOT?

They need television coverage of the IMO.

Not good TV. Buncha kids sitting for 6 hours per day doing 3 math problems. Heck, they only show the Countdown Round for MathCounts cause that's the most exciting part.

while that may be true, the guy on there was saying something to the effect of 'competitive eating is a growing sport, and i think part of that is because fans are only an arm's length from the athletes'

all i know is that i'd hate to be stuart scott....at some point he went from semirespectable sportcenter guy do their resident crappy gameshow host...and then there's his eye, but that's pretty much a small issue in comparison

I watched a bit of this last night. I think they have really mastered the formula for making something look exciting on ESPN. They pretty much did the exact same thing they do for the outdoor games and the WSOP. People dressed up in costumes, extended profiles, etc. Unfortunately it didn't work too well for this sport, but I think they made it about as interesting as they can.

I think what most people don't realize is how people like Kobayashi train for eating competitinos such as these. He basically drinks GALLONS of water at a time to stretch out his stomach to massive proportions. Apologies for the somewhat graphic description. It grosses me out too. :/

espn shows fishing, poker, paintball, archery, jet skiing, etc...

they have been showing stuff that isn't a sport, but rather a "hobby" or "activity" or "game" for years now. why does this surprise you?

and those of you saying golf is not a sport, i challenge you to a golf match and i'll show you how much of a sport it is.

Eh, who cares. Competition is basically the same thing as sports. It's not like it's as bad as E!2... I mean, VH1. Didn't they used to play videos?
