the network tv deal, not including sunday ticket, is worth 3.9 billion per year. that's nearly $122 million per team. and the owners need more money from the players? wtf? and they get giant rent subsidies from every city they're in. it's basically a license to print money and they're going to risk their product?
 
It's very little risk. The networks have agreed to pay the NFL regardless of whether the players are on strike or not.

No way the union can beat that.

If you figure there's 100 meeeeelion cable subscribers (some number I pulled out of my ass) then that's $20 a subscriber to cover.
 
They also get pretty good ratings from their NFL Draft coverage. I believe the current bargaining agreement states that the players earn 58% of the TV revenue.

Yeah although they do play MNF games on the ABC broadcast channels in the local markets. I don't have cable but I don't miss out on MNF games where the Vikings play.

directv and dish do not appear to be members of the ncta, so i doubt it. per wikipedia there are 18 million directv subs. dish is about 14 million. add 32 to 60 and you get 92. you weren't far off.

well, it's weird. the monday night people moved over to sunday night and a new network, and the espn sunday night people moved over to the monday night slot.

and as such--SNF has now become the premiere game of the week...or so it seems.
 
owners are such full of shit - they make ridiculous amounts of money at the taxpayer's expense. At least the players sacrifice their bodies, owners do shit.

Yeah, the increased exposure due to network vs. cable TV. Sure a lot of people have cable, but even more have broadcast.

There are a few people who are so into football they must watch EVERY game, they are the ones who will pay a bunch extra for DirecTV and the NFL Network so they can see an extra ~20 games per year.

If there's a game on I like to watch it, but I'm not spending extra for cable or other things so I can see one or two extra games a week.
 
And now you see why the players voted to decertify the NFLPA, and will likely do so if the owners lock them out.
 
So when are we going to get our tax dollars back for the stadiums we build? OH YEAH WE WONT LOL. Fuck I love sports and all, but that shit is ridiculous.
