ESPN NFL 2k5... How can you people like this game

I can't take credit for the video, but I can say that this is exactly why this game is worthless. Even on the easiest setting, these things should not be possible. The guy who made it said he set the game to Pro level.

PROOF that ESPN sucks

Pro level != realistic. End of thread.

ESPN is the best football game to be released on a console in a long, long time. Things like that are not possible using sliders which tweak the gameplay.

Sure, pro level is too easy and not realistic, but that is WAY too easy. You couldn't do that on Madden on the easiest level with ALL the sliders turned down. When Gonzalez just turns into those last two defenders... are you kidding me?! If you've played them both, you'd know that ESPN is a walk in the park compared to Madden, no matter what level you're on.

But the point is to simulate real NFL play as close as possible. Madden is light years ahead of ESPN in that regard.

Edit: Whoops, I do have to concede that some of the animations for players aren't as realistic. For instance, in Madden wide receivers don't look back to the ball enough, whereas in ESPN they'll look over both shoulders and then pul in the catch when it gets there. But the animation has nothing to do with how the game plays.

I don't care. When set to realistic sliders, it's better than Madden.

Plus, the online leagues are incredible. I don't even play against the computer anymore, I'm having too much fun in my online leagues.

It's a video game, as in you have to program it is some shape or form. Ofcourse there is gonna be some errors in logic in the game. All you have to do is learn the game well and master the controls.

Why would I need to complain about anything else? Again, I've played both, I gave both a shot, but when it came right down to it, I could set ESPN on "Legend" and smoke the computer with ease, whereas Madden on "All Madden" is quite challenging. Why would you want to play a game that you'll never lose at? Where's the challenge?

you do realize that you can go in and edit a players stats, right?

so you can make willie roaf have 4.2 speed and give the defense 4.9 speed, right? or you can give Q-Ball a 100 in breaking tackles.

I could doctor the game and have these results on Madden also.

Set it to something realistic, rather than the default pre-set levels.

Or don't, because you've been a Madden fanboy when it comes to these 2 games since they've come out.

I will stick to Madden... even though curl patterns are 95% completion rate and draw plays are 5% success.

I have no idea what you're trying to get at. Yes, there will be glitches in both games, but the absolute most fundamental part of both of these games is how the players the computer controls play. When the computer can't take down Tony Gonzalez when he runs right at two defenders, that's not even reasonably close to realistic. No game will be perfect for sure, and both have their flaws, but ESPN is so ridiculously easy - and this video exemplifies this - that I fail to see how anyone could enjoy it.

Don't worry, this will no longer be an issue in the future as EA has told all competitors to abandon all hope as they now have exclusive rights to both the NFL and ESPN.

And I'm the one that sounds like a fanboy? Listen, if you've blinded yourself to these problems, that's fine with me, but the fact is, nothing was edited at all on those players. In fact, the guy that put that together apparently (I just found this out or I would have posted it) also made a video for Madden. I'll post that as soon as I get a link. More importantly, those results are easily duplicated at home. If you've played ESPN on Pro, you'd know that it really is THAT EASY to run those types of plays. So absolutely, you're right: he could have doctored those players' stats and THEN recorded all of that. But, if you've played the game, you know that he wouldn't HAVE to doctor anything to get those results.

There are many, many people who wonder how people can actually sit and play Madden, too.

It's not our fault you have no friends to play with..other than the computer.

C'mon, you can do better than that. I hadn't played an NFL game on a console since Tecmo Bowl, and then last year a friend had me try Madden. I played it with him a few times, but 2k5 was out before I really got into Madden (I didn't even own a console at this time). We both tried 2k5, but I thought it played just the same as Madden 2004 (too easy), so I talked him into getting Madden 2005. He still liked 2k5, but I liked Madden. I ended up buying an XBox and buying his Madden game from him.

In other words, I was not a fanboy of ANYTHING until I had a chance to play both of these games, and found that I MUCH preferred Madden.

I don't plan on changing anyone's opinions, and I certainly won't make someone decide that EA isn't the spawn of Satan for signing that deal with the NFL and the NFLPA, but I do want to hear how in the world those of you that prefer ESPN can get past things like this. Sure, it's on an easy level, but you're kidding yourself if you can't tell that those same problems transfer into the game AT ALL LEVELS. There are far too many broken tackles in ESPN, and I'm sure this was done deliberately to make it more about offense than defense, but again, if you're going to win every game regardless of the level the game is set to, why bother playing?

Changed your avatar, eh? How's that working out for you?

Anyway, back to the subject. I actually enjoy franchise mode more than anything, and I really have no desire to hook my Xbox up to the internet until I can start a franchise online. I like to see my team progress over the years and change into what I wish it was in real life (ie. the Rams actually PLAY defense). With ESPN, my defensive players are too stupid to stop the opposing team, and while I can pretty much blitz every play and win, I find no enjoyment in running the exact same play all day. With Madden, my defensive players aren't hamstrung like they are in ESPN.

Here's the Madden video:

MUCH better than the ESPN one

Are you kidding me? This is from a guy that doesn't like Madden (note his ending of the ESPN vid AND the Madden vid), so that explains it. But seriously, how can you compare. Things like that are so inconsequential. USUALLY, passes like the one Trent Green made won't work, but sometimes they do (just like in real life... and if you don't believe me, watch a Brett Favre highlight reel some time). As for the McNabb thing, it's just an animation thing. In real life, McNabb wouldn't sit there facing the sidelines. Still, his feet were planted, and he had TONS of time.

I saw nothing in there that was remotely as bad as the things he pointed out in ESPN.

Its so funny how everyone is getting all pissed that someone posted something bad about ESPN 2k5, then calling that person a fanboy.
