2 miles from the Canadian border, LOL.

Now that he's caught, we'll transport him to the hospital... give him food, water and shelter... and at some point we question him. "yes, it's me. David Sweat. You got me." As if there hasn't been enough money spent in the search so far. Fuck that, drag him out in a field and light him on fire to burn alive.

No more honor block. A TV commenter was wondering why these two were allowed on honor block based on their crimes.

Since sex discrimination is illegal can you say no female guards in mens prisons? I don't think she was a guard.

Yeah, no thanks. I'd rather not have the government, as a representative of society, stoop to barbarism.

Female COs can work in male prisons and vice versa. A friend of mine worked in a VT womens' prison. Plebians might consider that a fantasy for him but...as much as people label women "crazy" in public, it's quite a bit worse in the joint.

And no, Joyce Mitchell wasn't a guard. She worked there as a tailor which is how she got involved with the escapees. It's even mentioned in the OP article, but as par for the course in ATOT, it didn't get read.

Captured. Cop found him, he ran away from cop and before cop lost him he decided to try and kill him. Is it legal to shoot-to-kill a prisoner who's escaped?

I believe it is if they are a proven danger to society and were warned that attempted escapees will be shot on sight. Many prisons have such warning signs.

I didn't see a thread on this so I started this one.

Prison escapee Richard Matt shot and killed, police believed closing in on accomplice
EDIT: Sweat shot and captured.

Despite these guys being the scum of the earth they still get some grudging admiration for pulling off their escape and staying free so long.

Wouldn't exactly call being hunted like a dog by dogs, humans and helicopters 'free'.

Well, they weren't Andy Dufresne free. iirc 99.9 percent of prison escapees are caught within 48 hours. At least the scum got out of the prison they were going to spend every day of the rest of their life in. Just a few hours of being in someones cabin or vacant house drinking a few beers and watching some tv was probably worth a few bullets for Sweat. As for Matt he may have chosen to risk his life for the slim chance of freedom.

Shot and killed not too far from where I graduated college. Yikes!

I bet if you just offered the entire college community some type of cash reward (or maybe free hot prostitutes for a night!!!) they would have found that guy in like 15 mins. Puss starved guys will do just about anything.... 0_0

This story really irritates me beyond words.

Nearly all prisoners that are desperate enough to escape are "dangerous." If they weren't dangerous, they probably wouldn't be doing the kind of time that makes a man desperate enough to throw the rest of his life away and live in hiding (or extend his sentence / lose privileges if re-captured). Why hasn't nearly every prison escape in history had this kind of media attention? There have been escapes in my town and people didn't go nuts over it.

The news reports make it sound like these guys might go on a killing spree and we should all be terrified for our lives. You know what a wanted man does when he gets away and finally stops running? He lays low. :colbert:

People think the drama of the manipulated woman accomplice makes this interesting. I dunno. Sounds pretty typical to me. This might warrant some informative murder-porn "documentary" on Investigation Discovery or something (you know, with sensationalized reenactments). Not all this bullshit.

All that theory sounds great until they're cornered like an animal or you have something they want.

True, the air was probably a little fresher outside the prison 🙂

It's kind of strange they didn't get so far. I mean you do all that work to get out of prison and risk your life doing it, but didn't seem to have much of a plan to get to freedom. Even Sadam lasted longer.
