Escalating Racism

While walking down the street today, I heard neighbours openly chatting with each other about "fvcking arabs", and "bomb all the muslims", and so on... and I live in a very multi-ethnic neighbourhood with lots of arabs, muslims, and so on.

This escalating racism is getting out of hand. People's hate-instincts are being played with, and sooner or later something is going to snap.

These racist incidents are very very sad indeed. Unfortunately some people are using this tragedy to express their own
racist feelings.

What they don't understand is that being an American doesn't exclusively mean being Caucasian. There are many many
minorites who who are real Americans. I know many Arabs who are more American than those racists. As a matter
of fact, those who spread racism are not Americans at all!!

'KILL ALL MUSLIMS' seems to be a popular bumper sticker now a days. I saw one here in Portland, OR yesterday. :(

I agree racisim is strong.. but this is because the public is fueled by the media and its uncanny and continous feeds.

The fact that negative or counter points are not issued by the media seemes to make things all so true. Also the fact that the public believe that anything said by CNN or Fox has to be true, because its in the news.

Personally I am not racist, and I do not beleive in racsim, however if people want to be racist I will put my foot down and argue on a level playing fiedl.. if they bring out weapons I will ask to be handed a weapon causing everyhing should be on a level playing field.

As for my stand on racism.. check my signature.

I'm probably more angry with bigoted Americans right now than I am at the terrorists. That's why myself and many other professional security officer have begun donating time to local arab/muslim/islamic organizations, religious centers, resteraunts, etc.

There may not be enough of us to protect them all, but by God we're gonna try our best.

As a side note if anyone in the Vancouver WA area is a licensed security officer and is interested in donating some watchstanding and patrol time please either message me, or email me.

You know, spreading things like 'you're not a real american' isn't going to lessen the hate. You think an insult is going to humble them and make them understand your plight?

That's what i've been seeing lately... people afraid, and what they do is try to pass the blame onto somebody else... either the US government, Israelis, and even a post i just read a few moments ago, at all the mourning that's going on TV!!!

You are NOT going to lessen the hate of you by blaming the same nation that just got attacked. You are NOT going to lessen the hate for you by trying to blame this on another nation, when it is very obvious it's Bin Laden that is doing it. You are NOT going to lessen the hate by telling people you're sick of all the mourning. If anything, you're going to increase the hate for you. Dammit, i know the more i read stupid posts like this, the more anger i have against you guys.

I absolutely agree with you, these acts have been committed by a small group of extreme fanatics in a far off little third world country known as Afghanistan.. and even within that country, most of the people are living in probably one of the worst conditions in this world, tormented by a government that doesn't care about them. In conditions so bad, the US had to send $120 million worth of food a few months ago.

I am very confident that the US knows the plight the Afghanistan people live under (they cared so much they sent 120 million worht of food a few months ago)... and i'm confident they won't be targetting civilians. The targets will be mainly the Taliban and Bin Laden.

And yes, there is racial hate right now... and i don't know the solution to lessen it... but i do know passing blame, or even blaming the US themselves, or insulting people by saying they're not American, is NOT going to lessen it, and will infact make it worst.

The justification was established as ok by the BIGOTED attack on America, who targeted only the innocent. All is understandable, since arabs are culturally racist bigots forced church/state by Jihad.

Bob/NYC, your little "mutt-hamads" quote shows your true colors...and it's not red white and blue!

To all those who remain angry with Arabian Americans, or those of 'non-christian' religion --- I understand, really I do. Everyones reaction is to lash out, to protect, to avenge. I sympathize. I want the guilty brought to justice as surely as you do.

Those guilty parties however, are not guilty by race, religion, sex, or any other identifying feature. They are guilty by political affiliation and by choice. There are 'bad' Americans just as surely as 'good' ones. There are 'bad' muslims as surely as 'bad' christians.

My ONLY goal with my group is to protect innocent American citizens who are being attacked becasue of their religion, or the color of their skin. Does that sound familiar? Because that's the reason that we're going to war now... we were attacked not because we were guilty, but because of our skin, and our religion, and our politics. And our American heritage is to protect those wrongly attacked, even at the cost of our own lives.

I did not in any way mean to offend anyone. I was not commenting in this thread about the initial attack, nor our response to it. I just want to make people aware that the terrorist attacks are continuing on American soil - every time someone shoots at a loyal American immigrant store owner. How can we say our goal is to stamp out terrorism while we let our own people continue to be targets?

I think the residual distrust and hatred of Arab-Americans is a particularly sad side-effect of this awful situation (hell, see my sig), but we really are facing a conundrum in regard to the treatment of foreign-born people of Arab extraction in this country.

Obviously the overwhelming majority of these people are as productive and law-abiding as anyone else, but the fact remains there is significant terrorist activity being undertaken by individuals here on student visas and other lawful forms of residence. Osama bin Laden's brother funds a scholarship fund at Harvard, and it is well-established that there are a number of terrorist cells operative within our borders - it appears that the 9/11 attack was extensively supported by such groups.

This puts us in an extremely touchy situation as a nation vis a vis Arabs, and it does not lend itself to an easy resolution. I condemn the kind of racist thuggery we are seeing toward Arabs of late, but it seems it would be prudent to enact some measures to separate the wheat from the chaff, so we could suspend the tourist and student visas of people who appear to have a connection to illegal activity. Crafting a fair and effective solution would require the wisdom of Solomon, and I for one am glad I do not have the authority to decide what should happen.

Things are really starting to get out of hand. I heard a story on CNN about a Arab-American woman and her two children getting chased out of a Walmart by an angry mob.:(

People on talk radio have been calling in and suggesting that all the Arab-Americans be rounded up and placed in camps. They always stress that these are not "internment camps" (what are they then?). I just hope that this doesn't escalate further.

Good call on exposing the racists out there. Amazing how calamity causes peoples' true colors to shine, for good and bad, everything from heroism to bigotry, all those things which are hidden in peoples' hearts comes to the surface. By the same token, let's recognize and stop in its tracks any similar sentiments expressing anti-semitism and all other forms of bigotry. I'm really sick of seeing the expression "the rich Jewish-run American media."
