Esata issue

My mobo came with an esata connection in the back but for some reason it doesn't auto-detect my external drive when I turn it on. I used the bracket that came with the drive and plugged it onto the mobo sata header and that auto detects just fine. I'm using AHCI mode so why does the internal-to-external connection work but not the built in esata mobo one? Is it a configuration issue in the bios or something else? My mobo is a Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-S2H model.

Never mind. Found it was a bios issue where both one of the sata headers and the esata were set to IDE mode instead of sata. Thanks.
