esata hot swappability?

I am about to buy an external case for a hard drive that has an esata port. I run os x and I am curious if I can hot swap esata external drives.

most recent SATA ports support hot-swappability but I don't know how to be 100% sure w/o asking your hardware mfr. - and depending on the quality of the person you get on the phone, you may still not be sure... 😉

And true eSATA also requires support for higher signal current to allow longer cables and there is a different connector with better shielding. Very few mobos support true eSATA yet, they just allow you to connect regular SATA exernally.

Even if it isn't true esata, will it be faster than firewire? I basically want something that is faster than usb and i can't find any 2.5" drives that support firewire and are still under $70.
