It seems that the rating for Oblivion is being changed to Mature 17+ in part due to a nudity mod. If that's the case then all viewing or content creation programs should carry an adult only rating. You can view far more pornographic content with any picture viewer than you can with a game. Windows comes with everything you need to create, and view pornography so should its sale also be restricted to adults only? Same goes for iPod, PSP, TV, DVD players, etc.

Almost as bad is Bethesda said that in the future they would protect the games content from being tampered with. I don't want any game that can't be modded.

This is an old issue.

The only real soultion is to stop voting for the same old Democrats and Republicans each term. Its political pressure that creates all these organizations and rules.

Hot Coffee was not an issue at all until someone called their congressman to complain. Then Hillary saw an opportunity to make points and jumped in.

Really thats the only reason politicians care about any issues: Its another chance to get some votes.

This was already brought up and locked once. We've all identified that we need to ban together and make Adult-Only content for ALL popular games so that Barbie, Bert & Ernie, and others can be ruined as well.

WRONG.

The ESRB is correct in what they did.

ESRB rules require that publishers disclose locked-out content during the rating process if it is pertinent to a rating. Accordingly, all skins included in the code on the final Oblivion game disc are considered pertinent to the rating, whether accessible through normal game play or not. The topless female skin was not disclosed to ESRB during the rating process.

The same applies to GTA with the Hot Coffee mod.
Quit bitching.
(That is an extract from an email they sent in reply to an email I sent to the ESRB complaining about this issue - their stance is part of their rules, and consequently the change of rating is correct).

I thought it already was. The game seems a bit mature to me. I guess there is no basis for me thinking that since there isn't much blood and no sex. It just seemed like an adult game, what with the thievery and assassination. And in-game racism.

First GTA and now Oblivion, this is ridiculus, like a small kid knows how to mod, what are the odds of that, this is ridiculus.

THE SAME RULE APPLIES TO BOTH GAMES.

To quote again....

Both Oblivion and GTA had locked content in the game which was pertinent to the rating.
The rule is there, if people choose not to take note of it that's their problem.
The nudity is also NOT why the rating overall was changed.

I do. I don't want all my games censored, and unmoddable.
Who's censoring it? They're increasing the ratings.
The company is talking about censoring their own games, to avoid problems with Big Brother.

it IS a Mature game.

Giving it the proper rating will encourage MORE kids to buy it. ;)

See post number one.

Not outright censorship, but a little self restraint to keep the sales up.
Just like Hollywood will go out of its way to avoid an NC-17 in the theaters. They know it means less money in the end.

Of course, Bethesda did put the code for boobs in the game. They just didnt have it available a part of the normal gameplay. Same as Grand Theft Auto.

What is up with developers putting in nudity in their games in the first place? I want to know what's going on in those places. I'm starting to think it's like prison, except man on computer instead of man on man. Or maybe both. There is no reason for them to put the crap into any version of the game. How much company money gets wasted on this?

OTOH, maybe it was an elaborate stunt to increase sales. If so then it is genius.

Quit complaining you under 17-18 year olds. Life is short, you'll be able to buy the games without your mommy before you know it.
