Alright to try to keep this short as possible. Built a system several months ago. Well the gigabyte mobo went bad(ram slots 2&3 stopped working). So I replaced it with a Asus mobo. I'm running a athlon 64 3000 1gig mushkin ddr400 3200 (512x2) ram. I have a ATI Radeon 9800pro and wd sata 160gig hd.

Well replaced the mobo and now I get errors and will go link dead when playing dark ages of camelot. I have 3 pcs I can play on, none are as fast as this though. Anyway, I can be doing the same thing on all three and consistantly go link dead on my main. I've tested the video card by swapping in a 9600pro card. Reacts the same. I have run over 20 hours of memtest86, ram seems to check out fine. As I stated the mobo is new. Two things at this point I haven't checked, is if there is an issue with the processor(I hope not). The other thing is swapping in a new harddrive. I'm waiting for that to arrive this week.

So what do you think? Will doing a fresh copy of windows help or do you think I should be investigating the processor, or maybe replace ram anyway?

I hope you did a fresh copy of windows when you swapped in that new motherboard because that there would cause you problems. What power supply are you using?

Specifics aren't that specific. In DAOC you have 3 connection warnings, Ping, Latency, and Framerate.

I constantly have the Latency go red(bad) then I will either completely go link dead or I will get a message that an error has occured with the game(daoc's message not window's).

By the way, I've also replaced my power suppy have a antec 550watt.

As AMDskip asked, did you re-install windows, or at least do a repair install when you swapped out motherboards? Did you install all the proper chipset drivers? Have you tried to un-install and re-install your network card?

Assuming that Windows itself is functioning properly (it might not be if you didn't do a fresh install of Windows when you changed motherboards)...

Most of the time when I got LD problems in DAoC it was because of one of these things:

1. Server down or poor connection to the server.
2. Internet connection acting up.
3. PC lagged to the point that it loses sync with the server.
4. Network connectivity issues.

1 and 2 aren't likely since your other computers are working fine. 2 is possible but if the system works OK otherwise and benchmarks are good, this usually would only happen if you have corrupted game files or you don't have enough RAM. Since the problem started happening when you changed motherboards, I would suspect #4. Make sure that you have the most current drivers for your network card, and try a PCI network adapter if you have one available.

Thanks again for all the replies. No I haven't reformatted and reinstalled Windows. I was hoping that uninstalling prior mobo stuff and installing all the new mobo software would take care of it. As I said, I'm trying to avoid reinstalling windows until I get my new hard drive. Aquired alot of stuff that i can't easily transfer to other pcs.

Well theres your problem then. Sometimes you can get lucky and not have to format but if you truely want a stable system you must format.

Ok Update on this.
To this date, I've replaced the Powersupply(now antec 550w), motherboard(now asus K8N), processor(now athlon643400), hard drive(added another 160wd sata hd) and I've tested the video card and ram.

I just did a fresh install of Windows XP on a brand new hard drive.
What exactly is happening is this: On Daoc there are three different things it checks: ping, latency, and framerate. At random times my latency will turn red(bad), then eventually I'll just go linkdead. At the same time I have another pc sitting right next to it playing the same game and it isn't happening there.

I've replaced everything but the ram and video card. Now I've ran over 20 hours of memtest32 on the ram and came up with no errors. I have swapped out the video card( radeon 9800pro) with another vidcard(radeon 9600 pro) and encountered the same issue on both cards on the one pc but not on the other.

I'm ready to throw the thing out the window. Any suggestions of something I haven't checked?

I'm invlined to say it's not your computer...if memtest ran, then I can't think of anything else that would die over time. Did you try using a different ethernet cable, or different port on the switch?

Well I was completely wrong. It was the bloody onboard nic. Now along the way there were a few other problems such as my first mobo going bad, then not enough juice from my powersupply, and now the nic.

Thanks again for the help all and I'll make sure to listen to the advice the first time.
