Im trying to run 512x3 of ddr400. I ran prime95 on all three and it failed. I also ran Memtest on all the sticks individually and it passed. But when i run all three at once it fails. Am i doing something wrong in my BIOS?

What kind of CPU/processor do you have. I had a case where a socket 939 Athlon64 processor would not run anything else but matching RAM sticks; i.e. two sticks of 512MB or two sticks of 1GB, but not three sticks of 512MB or two 1GB and one 512MB. This has something to do with dual channel memory controller on the CPU.

I never had much luck trying to run more then 2 DIMM's of RAM on the majority of NForce 2 motherboards I worked with so if thats your chipset its most likely not going to work for you. The only thing I'd suggest you try is relaxing the memory timings & maybe raising the voltage a bit then run memtest again & see what happens... you might even try lowering RAM speed to 333mhz.

wouldnt it be better running 205fsbx12.5 with 1gb rather than 166fsbx12.5 with 1.5gb?

It's also possible to use three modules, but remember that the dual-channel access can be set only for the memory size equal to the double size of the first module (which is installed into the slot of the lowest number), and if the size of the first module does not exceed the sum of the sizes of the second and third modules. Obviously, there are two most optimal cases: equal memory modules inserted into the first and second slots, or three modules, with the first one being equal to the sum of the other two modules.

is there a way to force it to run single channel? that link is pretty much saying that you cant have all three of the same dimm size correct?
