I have 2 sata veloraptor drives in raid 300 earch.

Everytime I start my pc it states error on one of the drive but when windows starts I can access the drive fine and I have full use of the 600g.

When I run a check it states that I have an error on the drive. When I run an error check it states that there is a problem with the cable.

My question is which sata cable should I purchase. I have read up a little bit and it appears that sata 2 would work but can I use a sata 3.

And I just wanna ask is there any chance it could be a different problem. The unusual thing is I can use the drive even though it says error.

Depends on the error. Could be a SMART failure. The drive will still work fine but for how long is the question. The cable may be bad but I highly doubt it. I would make sure all the data is backed-up and run WD's drive diagnostics. You may need to turn off the RAID temporarily in order to do this. It will let you know for sure if the drives are good or bad. All SATA cables are interchangeable, doesn't matter what you use.

It would likely help if you provided the exact wording of the error message(s).

Also, what does your RAID card (or built-in RAID BIOS) say? Most RAID controllers keep event logs.

AFAIK, there's no SATA3 yet but regardless all SATA cables are the same.

just get a regular SATA cable, they all support SATA II today. Since you are buying, get the ones with the bent ends and clips that hold it in place. They are all the same price, you might as well get something that is a custom fit.

Also, as stated above, if you get a hard media error, you system will recover it and mark that spot as bad...this should be fixed by the OS and then you don't see it again.

If you have SMART running and you over temp or get some other error that they consider permanent, you will continue to see the error posted until you replace the drive.

If it's just the cable, then you should be good. Otherwise backup (which you should have already done) and get a disk replacement.
