"error loading operating system"

I'm installing winXP SP1 from a CD that's known to be good (no scratches), onto a hard drive (WD2500JB)and Shuttle SN41G2 that are both known to be good.
After the first stage of the install (partition/format/copy files), it reboots once and then after the portion where it prompts you to press any key to boot from CD (which you are skipping), it should load into the install stage.
Instead, I'm getting "Error loading operating system" at that point.

I've updated the BIOS to the latest version, the SN41G2 was previously using a Maxtor 160 GB, the WD2500JB was previously used in another system, and it's jumpers are set to single drive only (no jumpers).

Anyone else run into this?

Could be a memory problem. Is the memory known to be good? I've seen tons of Windows install problems because of bad memory. You should post this in the OS forum though.

I agree-- post this thread in the OS forum and you will get more answers. I have had that problem when I tried loading the OS on systems that had memory timings set too fast, and cpu overclocked. Try default BIOS settings.

Memory is good.

Posted in OS already.
It's not a OS problem IMO.
It's more hardware or BIOS I think.
