I was just wondering if anyone else is having trouble with the SuSE 8.1 ftp install. After I supply the ftp server and the directory, I get this error:

"Error while accessing the FTP server: File not found"

I've tried this many times with different dirs, anything I could think of...I think ......./suse/i386/8.1 is the directory I want, but correct me if I'm wrong.

PS, if I try the same thing specifying 8.0 instead of 8.1, it works fine.

Thanks for your time!

If you're having that much trouble, I can burn the ISO's for you and send them in the post.

Wow, thanks, but there must be an easier way...I'm sure it's just something I'm doing wrong...

Yeah I am... such a strange problem... the part that I find weird is that if I specify an 8.0 directory on a server, it works...

hey, here's one:

i downloaded the entire 6 gigs (!) and am trying to do an install from my hard drive. i get all the way thru the yas installer 'til it starts to copy data from the source to the dest. dir and then it dies complaining that it can't mount the source 'cause it's already mounted. what the hell is up with that?!

i'm starting to think they just want to make it so totally impossible to install for free that you HAVE to buy the damn cd's ... !

Unless you're either installing SuSE on a handful (or more) hosts, or sitting on the Ethernet with a SuSE Linux mirror, downloading the whole tree is a big MISTAKE.

A typical FTP install sucks down only about 500 MB of files, and it has worked quite well for many releases (I first tried it in SuSE 6.3).
