I got the following error message when creating a CD:

T0100: I/O error (06/C5/00) - Write error - buffer underrun occurred
T0100: I/O error (06/C5/00) - Write error - buffer underrun occurred
T7118: TrackWriter error - Command retry failed

I am using hp cd-writer 9100 and Adaptec Easy CD creator Version 3.5c
Can someone kindly tell me what I should do? Thx

Can you get an update for the Adaptec software? Latest version is 4.03 for Easy CD Creator, 3.03 for DirectCD. If the software came with the cd-writer, HP should make an upgrade for the writer software available to you. Version 3.5c is OLD!

An upgrade may or may not fix your problem, but I doubt very seriously that you'll get the writer to work well (or at all) using 3.5c. Which OS are you running? What level of DirectX, etc.? Also, is the cd writer an internal IDE version or the "e" USB version?

Jim

Thanks for your advice. My setup is NT4 sp6, internal cd-writer.
Adaptec Easy Cd Creator 3.5c was included in the bundled software hp cd-writer plus.
They worked perfectly well until yesteray. After I got the error for the first time,
I tried again, but the problem remained.
BTW, I have my writer for about 5 months.

You might want to get the software update anyway. It does fix a lot of issues with the software.

But it sounds as though the update, all by itself, isn't going to fix your issue. Did something change on your system? Besides these error messages, I mean. New device, software, update? Did you do any tweaks to the system since the time when the cd writer was behaving itself? Even an anti-virus update might be a player here, so consider carefully.

Jim

I tried to install easy cd creator 4.0, but got a lot of error messages, so I had to
go back to 3.5c. However, I read somewhere that defragmenting my hard disk might solve
my problem and it did help. Anyway, thanks for your advice.

Buffer underrun means that your source could not be copied quickly enough to the burner.

You must either burn at a lower speed, or increase your throughput, which you did by defragmenting your hard drive. Large files are usually not the issue, but smaller files that are scattered all over the hard drive. There is an option in Adaptec Easy CD Creator to "buffer" files below a certain size. I suggest activating that option to improve successful burns.

What you need to do is free up some memory, turn off stuff running in the backgraoud like anti-virus software, run scandisk and defrag your HD. Your system is doing something in the background to cause the buffer underrun
