I have been trying to copy a rather large file from a burned DVD to my computer. It gets about 25% done then it gives me this error: Cannoy copy M2TW_Update2_Final_EFIGS: Data error (cylclic redundancy check).

If anyone knows what this means or how to prevent it from popping up again it will be greatly appreciated as I need this Update.

Penguin,

CRC (Cyclic Redundancy Check) is an internal way of verifying the intergrity of the file.
It sounds like the file on the DVD is corrupted.

Is it a burned disk?
If so, did you burn it?
If you did burn it, did you have VERIFY checked in whatever app you used?

There are errors reading the file.

I'd first try reading the file on a different DVD drive(s). If that doesn't work, you can try some disk recovery software to see if the file can be read.

There's been a LOT of junk DVD (and CD) disks made over the years, making them not very reliable for storage of critical data.

I burned the DVD using Nero but it was my brother's DVD because it was in his apartment. I am almost positive that he has used this DVD before (DVD-RW) which is most likely the reason it is corrupted or damaged. However, the other 20 or so files on the DVD are perfectly fine, it was just the 600MB file that is having trouble.

I shall take one of my clean DVDs to his apartment tomorrow and burn it again to see if that doesn't work.

Thanks for the replies.

Try using DVDecrypter to read that DVD. I experienced the same problem with a newly burned DVD - Windows XP kept giving CRC errors but DVDecrypter read the DVD with nary a hitch.
