Error copying file off of a DVD+RW

Trying to copy some files off a DVD+RW disc. When I get to a particular file, Windows takes an inordinate amount of time to try to copy it, and then gives up and says:

Cannot copy file: Data error (cyclic redundancy check).

Any way that I can get this file off the disc?

Try:

-another drive
-cleaning the disc
-doing a straight disc-to-disc copy and copying from the copy.

"sometimes" rebooting the system helps.

I had this happen to me the other day after burning a collection of .avi's to DVD :(

Probably not - the file is corrupted. As was said - the result of a burn error or a bad file to start with (good burn of a bad file.)

The best bet is to find the source that the RW disk was burned from.

ISOBuster can pull whatever is actually available off the disk no matter what windows says. Can't guarantee what you'll get, but you'll get something.

Same here. Just burned 20 DVD RW discs of anime .avi's, and a couple of them I can't get data back off of.

Forgot to ask as well, does anyone know if verifying the data after the burn would actually help to prevent this? Would it tell you if something didn't burn properly. I usually skip it because when burning large files it takes up lots of extra time.

Verifying the disc won't prevent it from happening again, but notify you that the burn was corrupt so you can try burning it again.
