Hello all!

I just replaced my old CPU (AMD Athlon 1.33 G ) with an AMD XP 1600+. Before doing that I flashed the bios (MB: Epox 8K7A). Now I am getting the code C1 on the LEDs on the MB, which, I understand, means " auto detection of onboard dram and cache". I have tried to find what this means, but havent come across anything that would explain this problem.

Does anyone know what this means? What could the problem be? and how to fix it?

Thanks!!

Civ

Update:
I came across a posting elsewhere that changing the position of the memory sticks should help. Tried doing that: the error code now is "04" which the Epox Manual shows as "reserved"...

are you sure you're new processor works fine? have you put the old processor back into the comptuer to see if it boots?

Yes I did that; and the processor works fine...

Btw: the error code could be 1c

is the cpu setting to auto detect? Did you change the voltage of the new cpu? Make sure the ram is in there

Ahh the C1 error...i thought they fixed that with the rev 1.1 boards.....

Use one ram stick at a time, or try another ram stick. I get this all the time when my crucial ram goes bad...i went thru 3 sticks of this stuff already. Good thing crucial has such a good warranty.

Did you clear the CMOS before installing the new cpu?

I wish that were true...

Looks like my RAM is screwed up: How long is the Crucial warranty valid? (my stick is about an year old...:()

The crucial site says 30 days warranty...just wanted to confirm

You're looking at the return policy.
All Crucial sticks have a Lifetime Warranty and, although I've never had to return a stick, I'm told that they're very good about it. One of the many reasons I buy Crucial.

I tried clearing the CMOS, but I am still getting the 1 C code. Still working on trying to find the cause for the problem ^.^

I've had this problem with my 8KHA+, not sure if it applies to you. Try reseating your memory into a different slot. That solved my problem.
