Just got this error when trying to install a patch for a game. Thought it was related to the game but searching google leads me to believe it's a windows issue. Unfortunately nothing I have read has lead me to a remedy.

Has anyone received this error?

"Error 1335. The cabinet file 'Data1.cab' required for this installation is corrupt and cannot be used......"

I've re-downloaded the file from a different server to see if it was corrupt but get the same result when installing. I've closed anti virus and no other programs are running. Windows update is up to date. All my drivers (graphics, sound , etc) are current.

Running windows 7. System specs in sig.

Anyone ever heard of this?

I have googled this for hours.

tired probably 10 different things that were suggested.
Tried to update Windows installer (doesn't work because Win7 has latest already).
Updated all drivers.
Tried to run the install from a networked pc.
Edited Boot.ini to 512MB memory
Changed CAB files to not b default in winrar
I've downloaded 5 different patches from different servers.
Only thing I haven't done is reinstalled windows. Really hate to have to do that. This install is less than one month old.

do you have access to another PC or VM to try installing on? if that works then it's probably something with your windows install.

It's definitely windows related but if you search for this error you will find tons of info. Related to other games, photoshop, office, etc. And some claim that even a windows reinstall does not fix this.
I'm not sure exactly what "VM" is. Maybe virtual machine? No, I do not have a VM.

You mean install the game and then the patch on another machine? I don't have anything else that meets the requirements of the game. Actually I can double check my work laptop but I am sure it will install. It's not the game and it's not the patch.

Already tried that Dahak. i also tried running it in XP compatibility mode as well as Vista. I've tried so many things I knew I would forget to mention a few.

Do any of the servers that provide the download offer you an MD5 Checksum of the file? If they do, I would start by comparing the MD5 they provide with one that you generate on the install package to make sure you're getting a clean download of the installer.

I do not know the answer to that seepy. I do know that the servers I am using are also used by alot of other people on a forum I go to. They are having no issues at all.

Right...I'm just trying to determine if the file you are downloading is getting corrupted at some point along the way. It's possible. And pretty much the only way to know for sure is to use an MD5 checksum.

What is the game you're having problems with?

Even if the servers hosting the file don't provide the checksum, can you have someone from that other forum create a checksum of their file? There are a handful of free/opensource tools you can download to do this.

I appreciate the help.

The game is Call of Duty:World at War. I honestly have no idea about checksum/MD5 files and not really sure what to ask of someone that has downloaded the file.

Here's a quick MD5 guide that OpenOffice provides:
http://www.openoffice.org/dev_docs/using_md5sums.html

Basically, use one of those utilities to create a Checksum (it will be a string of 32 letters/numbers). Have someone else that has a known-good copy of the same file create a Checksum. Then compare the two of them. If they aren't identical, then you know you have a corrupt file, and that's the problem (probably not a problem with Windows itself).

If the suspect is the compression software or lack of have you not tried installing another program such as 7zip or winrar and see if it can open the file by itself?

Also maybe the location that it is written in on the hard drive is bad, try moving it or saving it to another location and try again.

Yes, i originally had winrar handling the .cab files. I changed it to windows explorer to see if that helped but did not.

And yes I have downloaded it to my desktop as well as an eSATA drive. No difference.
